The Graveyard Book. I remember my elementary school librarian read the first 2 chapters of this book to my 5th grade class and it made a lasting impression on me.

Try one of his collections of short stories. Trigger Warning is my favorite. All of his books are good; The Graveyard Book and Ocean at the End of the Lane are my favorites. American Gods is now a tv series on Starz so maybe you want to read that book first (they’re a little bit different from each other).

I’d say Trigger warnings

Neverwhere is good for your first one. It kind of encompasses all of his styles and isn’t too fairytale or too dark. Stardust is a bit more fairytale and American gods is a bit darker. Anasi boys is a good one too, just to dip your toe in. And he has a comic book series and some kids books or short stories as well. (I’d go with fragile things for short stories)

Welcome to the world of Neil Gaiman! He is one of my very favorites. I agree with the others – start with Neverwhere or Stardust, or any of his young adult titles. And if you’re a fan of audiobooks, he reads most of his own books and is fabulous at it.

Anyone read Ananci Boys? Not sure of the spelling. It was my first Gaiman after seeing the Graphic books, the
Dreaming.

Yes the spelling is almost correct. It ends with ‘si’. I read it and liked it a lot.

OOH. I’m tempted to say The Ocean at the End of the Lane, but Neverwhere is great as well. And there’s American Gods, if you’re interested in seeing the Starz TV series. Enjoy! I’m excited for you to discover the great world of Gaiman! ??✨

I am currently watching American Gods and I’m tempted to read the book. Is the book better? How faithful is the TV adaptation?

0
Rachael

I don’t know, I haven’t seen the TV series. I liked the book American Gods quite a lot when I first read it, but upon re-reading I found the book was quite slow. It takes longer than it needs to in getting to the climax of the story.
