I was probably hooked by mom reading books and some t m, but the first chapter books I remember and still have are Bobbsey Twins and then I really liked the Cherry Ames Nurse books. My mom was in Doubleday book club back in the early 59’s so that is where I developed my love of reading.

But I didn’t become an avid reader until after college.

I didn’t find my love for reading until high school. I only read when I had to until then. The Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Green was my first book love. I had to read it in 9th grade English and then even got the sequel to read. ? it was also the start of my love of WWII books.

When I was little I would accompany my mom to the nursery school in my building. She was the cleaning lady and in return I was allowed to attend. I loved sitting down and looking at their books: Corduroy and Harry the Dirty Dog will always hold a special place in my heart.

American Girls sets…
Read everyone of the sets that were out when I was a kid (Kirsten, Samantha, Molly, Addy, & Felicity).
Unfortunately, my daughter never cared for them…she’s more into creepy books…

Granted, I loved Goosebumps & Fear Street books as well…so not complete loss on my daughter lol

I already loved to read, but in about 3rd or 4th grade, our teacher would read to us for 30 minutes each afternoon, starting with “The Secret in the Covered Wagon.” I think that teacher helped many students develop a love for reading.

The Wizard of Oz series, used to own the whole series until a move several yrs ago where the thieves stole our Hertz Penske truck…we got some things back, but my books weren’t any of those things, had to replace them. This was 16 yrs ago and I am still replacing my books. Haven’t found the complete set of The Wizard of Oz yet…would prefer the set and not piecemeal if you know what I mean….anyway, yeah, The Wizard of Oz, think I read it the first time in 2nd or 3rd grade back in the early 70s

When I was in kindergarten, my grandparents gave me two Bobbsey Twins mysteries and I was hooked. I went on to read every Trixie Belden book I could find. Then it was Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys and the Cherry Ames nurse series. By then I was in the fourth grade and I could go to the public library and I went every few weeks reading to my heart’s content! <3
