Kept me guessing but, I read it before the movie.

Loved the book but I don’t imagine it would be as impactful if I had already seen the movie

I liked the book better but maybe it was because I read it first.

I thought it was predictable, and very overhyped. Now, when I see “The next Gone Girl” in a blurb, I don’t want to read it. Ridiculous people doing ridiculous things and ridiculous cops who are clueless. Movie was marginally better. I seriously have no idea how this book is so well liked.

I hated it. I read it thru tho. That was the last time I do it tho. If it doesn’t grab me in 1st 100 pages I’m done

It was very overhyped and it is the only book I’ve actually ever thrown across the room when I got to the end. I was so angry I wasted my time because it was so predictable.

I did not care for it. I think because I could or did not like a single character in the book. No empathy for any one. I feel they deserved each other.

I agree. I wouldn’t have finished it except it was chosen by my bookclub.

Book and movie were both equally “ok-ish” but neither were great, in my opinion.

That book has resonated with me for so long because I struggled to believe that people could be so evil and conniving.

That was my problem too. I do not like a book when evil wins. It really upsets me. Her writing sucks you in but you really wish you had never read it at the end.

How I also felt after reading…all the ugly and wonderful things by Bryn Greenwood

I liked it, but I read it with a book club that stopped halfway through because they were mad at the husband. I. Was so mad ?- they didn’t read the book, so they couldn’t grasp the whole story!

I like it also. Not my favorite book, but I definitely liked it. Psychological thrillers/suspense are my thing.

Loved it. Read it in one sitting. Not everyone’s cup of tea, though.

I don’t like her writing style. I read her other books and did not like them. Then Gone Girl came out and everybody raved so I felt like I had to read it (I worked in a bookstore and EVERYONE was talking about) and I did not like it. The only reason I watched the movie was bc it was playing on a plane. I have very strong feelings about this apparently and they aren’t very good ones.

I love clever villains and Gone Girl delivers. Frank Underwood is my favorite villain. Hugh Laurie in the Night Manager is great evil, too. They must be REALLY clever.

The unexpected twists and turns in the plot are part of what make it compelling. If you’ve already seen the movie, it would lack the element of surprise and might not be as enjoyable to read

Have been on this site for several months now, and the two most discussed books on it, I think, have been “A Man Called Ove” and “Gone Girl”. If I ever write a book, I would like it to be as ‘discussed’ as these two. To me that is success.

Absolutely agree @Peg. I enjoyed the book in the sense of it being an easy page-turning type read … great for a beach read or a one-sitting read. The characters were just hideous … no-one to like or feel sympathy for or empathy with.
