Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. I don’t know why that stuck with me, especially since I hate cockroaches, lol. I also read Love Story on my own, and balled my eyes out. Also Go Ask Alice was another one that I really likes
When legions die! It was written by Hal Borland. I love in the northwest corner of Connecticut where Mr Borland also lived. Well one night, while I was reading this book, I went off to my babysitting job, across the street from my house. When I rang the bell and walked in. There was a gentle man waiting there too. I had the book with me, and he saw the book I was reading and he asked if I was enjoying the book. I said ” Oh yes, very much ” he replied ” I’m very happy to hear that ” then he put out his hand to shake and said “I’m Hal Borland” One of the best memories ever. He signed my book and promised to let me know when he was writing, and he would let me read what he writing at the time.
@Janet I love in Torrington Connecticut. I grew up in Canaan. Hal Borland lived in Salisbury, Frank McCourt lives in Norfolk where he did a reading from Angela Ashes. Auto correct changed the name of the book it should be When the Legends Die
@Melanie oh wow! When you said northwestern Connecticut I was thinking you might live there. I lived at 418 N Elm St across the street from Forbes school where I attended from 1958 – 1965. We moved to California in 1965 when I was 12 and I’ve been in Southern California since. I loved growing up in Torrington. The house we lived in was owned by Henry & Beanie Kaczmarck.
@Janet I know right where you are talking about! N. Elm Street grown up! We have a Wal-Mart and a Target too. But the park is beautiful and the Warner theater is still popular. I enjoyed reading your post. Small world.
@Melanie the last time I was there was in July 1993, I went and saw Henry & Beanie, they were so surprised because I was 40 and the last time they saw me I was 12.

Actually my English teacher only taught banned books, sure she told the school board, but they didn’t read or follow what books were banned. She did tell us in class, but the ones who loved to read like me and my friends, never told our parents, the other kids who were in our class didn’t either because they didn’t understand that it was against the rules to teach corrupt books that might change the way kids thought.
