I read this book and it scared the sh** out of me. The movie I can’t take seriously, and laugh at times, but the book was horror at its best.

So I have seen this numerous times at the store and have even skimmed through it. Is it worth the read? It looked, different.

0

its a difficult read, it’s all over the place, and at times hard to keep up with but I absolutely loved it when I got into it.

2
Danielle

I started this and had to abandon it because I couldn’t give it the concentration it needed. Hoping to pick it up again one day. (Maybe when my kids are all grown lol)

0
Chloe

@Danielle it’s definitely very challenging to read the way it’s laid out, it took me a while to actually jump into. But I promise it’s so worth it!

1
Danielle

I actually keep it under my bed for the day I get to start again!

1
Chandler

From what I’ve read it’s more a thought provoker? Is it also scary or just something that makes you reimagine the world around you?

0
Chloe

Definitely a thought provoked but it’s also considered a horror and weirdly enough somehwhat of a romance

I just finished The Ruins by Scott Smith. It wasn’t the scariest book I’ve ever read, but it’s a great horror novel. Another great horror novel is House of Leaves. It’s disturbing on several different levels, and is a unique reading experience.

3

AlecQuestion author

Whats it about? A haunting style book is actually exactly what I am looking for!

1
Jen

It’s basically about a group of people that go to a haunted house, but everything about the story is ambiguous. To me that is very scary/disturbing. Shirley Jackson who also wrote The Lottery wrote this book. If you like stuff along those lines a great short story is The Yellow Wallpaper.

2
Marta

@Jen @Alec I’ve just finished reading it a month ago and I totally loved it!! It’s not only horror, but also a sort of “phycological mystery”. Loved it!

Ouah ! C’est une affaire en or ça ! ?
Je suis fan également de son style, et ses histoires sont fabuleuses, superbement bien trouvé, originales, bien racontées. Bref, je suis fan ?

The Shining. Was a child at the time and had already read several Stephen King books. They didn’t phase me. The Shining did. Lived in an old noisy house. Had to put The Shining down and have never bothered to pick it back up again.
