David Walliams’ World’s Worst Children for my son!!! £6.99 ??? It was an ebook, and I paid that much because I’m trying to get my son to read more and this is the book he wanted. For myself, I wait for books I want to go on offer and read cheaper ones while I wait. Only very rarely will I pay full price if it is a book I really really really want. I just can’t afford to buy every book I want to read full price… ?

I just bought a second copy of We Were Eight Years in Power by Ta-Nehisi Coates. I bought one copy full price and then my mom stole it, so I had to buy another one.

I paid full price (minus a small pre-order discount) last month for the hardcover edition of Madelyn Albright’s Fascism: A Warning. It’s the first book my formerly non-reading husband has ever asked for, so I wanted to be sure he got it as soon as it came out. He’s almost half way through it and called me the other day and told me to tell him to put the book down and get back to work, as he’d been reading for an hour and a half and wasn’t getting anything done.

Libraries, books received as gifts, used book sales, Goodreads giveaways are now how i get books. It has been more than 25 years since I paid full price for a book. While I do recognize that authors need royalties, I’m not sure how much of a book’s price actually makes it to the author.

if nobody buys new books, there won’t be any before long. publishers need to make money or they won’t bother”

I have several friends who “only” buy new hardcover books. I’m hoping we balance out the trade. When I used to buy books, I always bought from a physical independent book store. Although my free Goodreads Kindle books come through Amazon, I have never actually purchased a book through Amazon.

Don’t forget that independent bookstores need the revenue or all that will be left is amazon and Barnes and Noble?. Someone has to buy it new before there can be used. I do new ( independent only), used sales and library ( audiobooks)

We have one of the best movies independent bookstores in the country in Denver. It’s managed to survive while the local Barnes & Noble brick stores have been struggling.

Jane Austen at home by Lucy Worsley. I buy most of my books new. if people won’t buy new books, there soon won’t be any, because if non one can make any money out of them, why would they bother?
