My favorite childhood story was Ferdinand the Bull. My husband bought me a copy one year as part of my Mother’s Day gift from the kids. I was shocked he remembered!
for my 50th i asked my friends for a copy of their best book (not necessarily a new one), and my bestie gave me a copy of White Oleander which we realised was the copy i gave her 10 years previously because i had so loved it and knew she would too. It is weather beaten because she has read it so often
Three Men and a Boat as a wedding present to read on a long plane ride I would be taking. I laughed until I cried. I’m sure the other passengers thought I was a bit of a loon.
At least you got it from your Dad. Someone special to remember whenever you see the books. Mine was from a shitty ex boyfriend ?. Of course i cant feel bad about the books just because it came from a top shelf, class A jerk. So i kept and took care of the books until its fateful demise because of the termites.
When I was 10 in 1983, I received Are You There God? it’s me Margaret. It really helped me feel better about all the changes and feelings I had going on.
I Did TooIt!!! Did You Read, Forever Amber—-That Was A Book, My Cousin And “ Snuck” And Read!!! At That Time, Forever Amber”—-“ Off Limits!!! This Is Trish!!!
#3 in the Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz. I ended up going out and buying the first two because I start a series from the beginning and I ended up loving the series.
I have two–both given to me by my mother….The Complete Works of Van Gogh one Christmas. Then when I was growing up I loved this beautiful little book, Old Tales of Japan, by Yuri Yasuda. Such beautiful stories and illustrations! I would bring it home from the library over and over again. Until it was stolen……When I was in college my mom surprised me with a copy of it for Christmas. It’s a treasure.
Hans Christian Andersons collected stories from my Aunt when i was six. Fell in love with the little mermaid and it was definitely not the Disney version. It’s the one book that has survived every move.
It isn’t really a book but my son bought me my @Kindle and he made it so when I get a book he pays for it so all my books on my Kindle are bought fimy son, love him so much
@Becky it’s the best thing, if I finish a book at night I don’t have to wait until tomorrow to get a new book lol, and it has a light so you can read at night and on the airplane and not bother anyone
My first. A huge book of faith tales my dad bought me when I was 2. Black and whits , cheap paper, but by slept with that under my pillow for years. I would hold it, smell it, turn the pages, long before I could read a word.
A copy of Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone that my husband leather bound and stained himself. He even made me a Gryffindor-colored ribbon bookmark. Definitely a favorite of mine ?
My best book gift was my Kindle Paperwhite…. possibly the best gift my husband has ever given me. But, an actual physical book… probably the first Harry Potter back when they first arrived on the scene… introduced me to nearly a decade of reading the same series.
I have received 2 books as gifts so far. 1 was a book I wanted- my friend and I spent my birthday at the bookstore and it was wonderful. The other was a book that another friend loves and thought I might like, so he bought me a copy of my own- and I did love it. I really don’t have a favorite of the 2, though.
The birthday gift was Wonder by R.J. Palacio. The 2nd book was One False Move by Harlan Coben. Two very different genres lol
Too numerous to just pick one. Reading some of the above comments, I have to say that I am very fortunate to have both family and friends who not only thought it was important to give me books as I was growing up, but also recognize that books are all I really want as gifts anyway! ?
A lot of my favourite books as a child were given to me as presents rather than being chosen by me. IT is difficult to choose one. I particularly remember A Traveller in Time by Alison Uttley, given to me when I was ten.

I can’t say there’s any book that fits this question for me because usually I’m the only one who treats myself with books. Usually I get money or giftcards for books as presents 😀 But one thing that I’ll never forget was the entire Haruki Murakami collection I received as a gift from my mum when I was 18. I cried and it’s one of my happiest moments.
My brother gave me Leon Uris’ “Trinity” as a Christmas gift when I was in college. It’s the only time he’s ever given me a book-related gift and I was so touched by it. I liked the book (not sure how he knew I would) but kept it for years because he gave it to me.
Reading this list reminds me that my favorite book changes and I keep remembering books that need to be on that list: A Town Like Alice (I re-read this, it is like coming home), The Stand (I re-read this one too and it is so rich there is something new to focus on each time), the Little House books were my favorites when I was in elementary school.
