I think it is one of the smaller paperbacks and the trades is a larger paperback.

Hardcovers = (large size) – Trade paperbacks (medium size) – Mass Market paperbacks (small size).

Is trade paperback the regular paperbacks that are being sold or are they different from regular paperbacks?

It’s usually smaller and has a thinner paper back cover. At least thats the only difference on the ones I ordered from amazon.

They’re also bound cheaper so they can be sold cheaper and therefore companies can produce more hence “mass market”

This is also a common format for books that are required reading in school because teacher can purchase larger quantities at a lower price. I don’t think I ever read a hardcover in school.

They’re smaller, “pocket” size, and the paper and printing are of somewhat inferior quality. In some pages the ink can be very pale.
