They were ok. Ya and the characters are young but a decent read. Definitely not at the top of my list but worth reading.

I liked them when I was younger and more naive, but they didn’t age well with me, lol. Still has a special place in my heart since I loved it so much at the time.

This is everything I feel. I was such a Twihard but now? Not so much. The books still have a special place on my shelf though.

I was diehard when the books came out, and one of those annoying girls with “Team Jacob” merchandise at the movie theater ? I was like 19-21 at the time. As I grew older…yikes ? But I still own all the books and movies ??‍♀️

Liked them when I was younger but now the relationship dynamics really mess it all up for me – I’m currently skimming trough them and it’s a guilty pleasure but I don’t have the same love for them at all, and can recognise bad writing where I see it. Also… sparkly vampire never sat well with me.

I recognize that they are not the best writtem books, but i lived them for a long time. I probably would still reread.

The writing is pretty good, especially for a teenage mindet. I think there’s a stigma against twilight these days because it became so huge that many people don’t want to admit how good it actually was.
Regardless, any novel/author that produces that sort of mania is deserving of respect.

Used to be a fan. Now I realize how creepy Edward was. The whole virgin thing… ew

3

Being a virgin is creepy? Really?

1
Paz

Watching bella sleep. And being a virgin for 100 years? A dude that hot? Yeah sure ?

1
Paz

Not believable at all

1
Paz

Besides I really hate all those stories of women/men marrying their first love and losing their virginity to them. It’s not realistic. That’s part of the reason why I love SJM.

5
Lena

I KNOW IT IS SO CREEPY! Back then I was like “ok that’s weird but fine” now I’m like “must protect Bella and get all these toxic men out of her life”

I love the series cus the fact that brings me nostalgia and I do love the writing. But like someone mentioned above the dynamic was a little strange. Bella’s character isn’t something I would encourage my daughter to be like?? Idk. But as a young teenager I was like yessss Edward and Bella. Now that I’m coming from an adult version I’m like well…that kinda doesnt sit well for me now lol. And yes the idea of a sparkly vamp vs all the great things I read now I’m like okaaaay ? but tldr I would say read it once for the sake of you reading it cus it’s not horrendous.

One of my absolute favorites. When I read them I WAS Bella, I truly felt like I was living her adventures by the way Stephanie wrote them. And rereading them every couple of years is awesome too.

Is it weird I actually enjoyed the movies? I got bored with the books

1
Reply
Lena

Not weird! I think now I enjoy the movies more than the book – partially because the relationship is somewhat less creepy (although still very creepy) and partially because we get more POVs, although it’s still stuffed with weird stuff.

2
Josh

@Lena Thanks! I understand the concerns now the books and stories provide. As films though, I actually liked The Bella and Jacob characters. Even Edward had moments. I found the book versions to be bland

1
Rachel

I did not enjoy them at all. Bella was a very annoying main character and Edward was creepy.

I was a Twihard when they first came out and read and re-read them. Now as an adult (although I still feel weird calling myself an adult at 23. I dk.) I feel like I would have the same experience as I did when I re-read Vampire Academy. (Re-read VA a while ago. First time reading I was all for #Romitri. Now as an adult, I hate it. I couldn’t continue with the rest of the series.) Although I still have fandom-related knowledge rattling around my head for no reason.

I was a twilight fan when I was younger, and some parts of it I still enjoy, but ultimately I think Bella is a very bland character with no real personality or agency and Edward is an abusive love interest.

I rather prefer Midnight Sun -Twilight from Edward’s perspective- his character is much more interesting and well written than Bella’s.. I do not really like Bella, especially after the bullshits she did in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, ooh and also in New Moon..Edward deserved better I think ? Although I love the first book both from Bella’s and Edward’s perspective and I reread those two many times but I did not really enjoy the other ones in the series..I hate love triangles. The movies are trash but I also liked the first from them and its music 😀

If you like books from both MC’s pov, try the Sky Brooks Series by Mckenzie Hunter. Originally written from the female main character’s pov, then later a whole series set from the male main character’s pov and written by Emerson Knight in reference with Mckenzie Hunter. Female series about to finish up, 7th book due by the end of the year, Male series half way there, 4th book to be released soon. They match up perfectly ?

1

I really can’t stand them. I read them so I could have an informed opinion but I actually hated them. Bella is so cliché and linear, and I hated that the vampires went to school and walked in daylight. Meyer was so scared to actually kill off any of her characters that the final ‘battle’ was actually a chat in a field.

I’m sorry for my unpopular opinion ?

Poorly written with zero character development..

Bella is bland and boring and goes into depression because Edward leaves her and her dad just does nothing despite the fact that his daughter is acting like a corpse but tbh that seems to be her character. Edward stalks her it’s creepy and just damn weird. Their entire relationship seems abusive to me. He even shuts her off from her friends. Also vampires that sparkle? Dracula is rolling around in his coffin.

Legend was also Christian mythology and kicked butt, but the female protag was a little watered down. It was nice that they backed real world consequences and family values but her whole reckless face was tough.

The story is okay, even though Bella’s motives are debatable, but they are badly written. Purely based on the way Meyer expresses herself, don’t read them.

I have so many problems with Twilight, as far as characters and relationships (Bella is basically a doormat, Edward is a stalker, Jacob has some real issues too)… BUT they’re kind of light and fluffy reading that doesn’t make you think too hard. I think I reread them once a semester in college because all my assigned reading was just so heavy.

I love them when I first read them (at 11 years old lol) and I sometimes go back and reread them when nothing else sounds appealing

I’m of the mind where I don’t ever take what I read too seriously. I can overlook bad grammar, real life relationship ideals, unrealistic events, Etc. because the point of reading for me is to get lost in the story and in the book and I did that with twilight. Are they the best books ever, no would I use them to teach children the ideals of a healthy relationship, also no but are there vampires and werewolves in real life – not that I’ve seen. So I like them for exactly what they are and don’t hold them to a higher standard. The story intrigued me I reread it time to time, I enjoy the desperation with which edward and bella love each other. I enjoy the family dynamic between each clan and couple. I enjoy them.

I read them when I was a teenager and got annoyed by her picking Edward all the time and the last book? Oh my god. No. It was SO bad. I didn’t finish it. Bella being pregnant was just… bizarre. I loved the first book, enjoyed the second… and it derailed from there for me. Personally, as I was the age they were intended for when they came out, they were just books. Nothing to remember. I was not obsessed.

In the beginning I loved them but now I realise how dysfunctional and toxic Bella and Edward’s relationship was and the fact that the books and movies portrayed the idea that girls can’t live without their “true love” and I hate the fact that she gave in so easily after what happened in new moon

Liked the first one a lot. Second was totally boring, 3 and 4 were kind of okay-ish in places and kind of cheesy-lame in other places, managed through them just to know, what’s going to happen. Also read Midnight Sun, which was ok for what it is. Same with movies – loved the first one, totally bored with 2, 3 and 4.
