I liked them when I was younger and more naive, but they didn’t age well with me, lol. Still has a special place in my heart since I loved it so much at the time.
I was diehard when the books came out, and one of those annoying girls with “Team Jacob” merchandise at the movie theater ? I was like 19-21 at the time. As I grew older…yikes ? But I still own all the books and movies ??♀️
Liked them when I was younger but now the relationship dynamics really mess it all up for me – I’m currently skimming trough them and it’s a guilty pleasure but I don’t have the same love for them at all, and can recognise bad writing where I see it. Also… sparkly vampire never sat well with me.
The writing is pretty good, especially for a teenage mindet. I think there’s a stigma against twilight these days because it became so huge that many people don’t want to admit how good it actually was. Regardless, any novel/author that produces that sort of mania is deserving of respect.
Besides I really hate all those stories of women/men marrying their first love and losing their virginity to them. It’s not realistic. That’s part of the reason why I love SJM.
I love the series cus the fact that brings me nostalgia and I do love the writing. But like someone mentioned above the dynamic was a little strange. Bella’s character isn’t something I would encourage my daughter to be like?? Idk. But as a young teenager I was like yessss Edward and Bella. Now that I’m coming from an adult version I’m like well…that kinda doesnt sit well for me now lol. And yes the idea of a sparkly vamp vs all the great things I read now I’m like okaaaay ? but tldr I would say read it once for the sake of you reading it cus it’s not horrendous.
One of my absolute favorites. When I read them I WAS Bella, I truly felt like I was living her adventures by the way Stephanie wrote them. And rereading them every couple of years is awesome too.
Not weird! I think now I enjoy the movies more than the book – partially because the relationship is somewhat less creepy (although still very creepy) and partially because we get more POVs, although it’s still stuffed with weird stuff.
@Lena Thanks! I understand the concerns now the books and stories provide. As films though, I actually liked The Bella and Jacob characters. Even Edward had moments. I found the book versions to be bland
They were what got me into reading, and I will always have a special place in my heart for the series. It’s not well written, but that’s okay. I can enjoy them anyway.
I was a Twihard when they first came out and read and re-read them. Now as an adult (although I still feel weird calling myself an adult at 23. I dk.) I feel like I would have the same experience as I did when I re-read Vampire Academy. (Re-read VA a while ago. First time reading I was all for #Romitri. Now as an adult, I hate it. I couldn’t continue with the rest of the series.) Although I still have fandom-related knowledge rattling around my head for no reason.
I was a twilight fan when I was younger, and some parts of it I still enjoy, but ultimately I think Bella is a very bland character with no real personality or agency and Edward is an abusive love interest.
I rather prefer Midnight Sun -Twilight from Edward’s perspective- his character is much more interesting and well written than Bella’s.. I do not really like Bella, especially after the bullshits she did in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, ooh and also in New Moon..Edward deserved better I think ? Although I love the first book both from Bella’s and Edward’s perspective and I reread those two many times but I did not really enjoy the other ones in the series..I hate love triangles. The movies are trash but I also liked the first from them and its music 😀
If you like books from both MC’s pov, try the Sky Brooks Series by Mckenzie Hunter. Originally written from the female main character’s pov, then later a whole series set from the male main character’s pov and written by Emerson Knight in reference with Mckenzie Hunter. Female series about to finish up, 7th book due by the end of the year, Male series half way there, 4th book to be released soon. They match up perfectly ?
I really can’t stand them. I read them so I could have an informed opinion but I actually hated them. Bella is so cliché and linear, and I hated that the vampires went to school and walked in daylight. Meyer was so scared to actually kill off any of her characters that the final ‘battle’ was actually a chat in a field.
Bella is bland and boring and goes into depression because Edward leaves her and her dad just does nothing despite the fact that his daughter is acting like a corpse but tbh that seems to be her character. Edward stalks her it’s creepy and just damn weird. Their entire relationship seems abusive to me. He even shuts her off from her friends. Also vampires that sparkle? Dracula is rolling around in his coffin.
Legend was also Christian mythology and kicked butt, but the female protag was a little watered down. It was nice that they backed real world consequences and family values but her whole reckless face was tough.
The story is okay, even though Bella’s motives are debatable, but they are badly written. Purely based on the way Meyer expresses herself, don’t read them.
I have so many problems with Twilight, as far as characters and relationships (Bella is basically a doormat, Edward is a stalker, Jacob has some real issues too)… BUT they’re kind of light and fluffy reading that doesn’t make you think too hard. I think I reread them once a semester in college because all my assigned reading was just so heavy.
I’m of the mind where I don’t ever take what I read too seriously. I can overlook bad grammar, real life relationship ideals, unrealistic events, Etc. because the point of reading for me is to get lost in the story and in the book and I did that with twilight. Are they the best books ever, no would I use them to teach children the ideals of a healthy relationship, also no but are there vampires and werewolves in real life – not that I’ve seen. So I like them for exactly what they are and don’t hold them to a higher standard. The story intrigued me I reread it time to time, I enjoy the desperation with which edward and bella love each other. I enjoy the family dynamic between each clan and couple. I enjoy them.
I read them when I was a teenager and got annoyed by her picking Edward all the time and the last book? Oh my god. No. It was SO bad. I didn’t finish it. Bella being pregnant was just… bizarre. I loved the first book, enjoyed the second… and it derailed from there for me. Personally, as I was the age they were intended for when they came out, they were just books. Nothing to remember. I was not obsessed.
In the beginning I loved them but now I realise how dysfunctional and toxic Bella and Edward’s relationship was and the fact that the books and movies portrayed the idea that girls can’t live without their “true love” and I hate the fact that she gave in so easily after what happened in new moon
@Sarah to each her own! I first read them when I was 49 and still love them 10 years later. We are so lucky to live on a land where we can read what we want.
Liked the first one a lot. Second was totally boring, 3 and 4 were kind of okay-ish in places and kind of cheesy-lame in other places, managed through them just to know, what’s going to happen. Also read Midnight Sun, which was ok for what it is. Same with movies – loved the first one, totally bored with 2, 3 and 4.
It’s been a while since I read them
I loved them!
Not great…
I LOVED them!!! They are the reason I got into reading
Loved them
They are the only reason I ever started reading, and holy crow has it thrown me into a wonderful world ??
Love love love them!!! I can’t even tell you how many times I have read them.
They were ok. Ya and the characters are young but a decent read. Definitely not at the top of my list but worth reading.
I liked them when I was younger and more naive, but they didn’t age well with me, lol. Still has a special place in my heart since I loved it so much at the time.
This is everything I feel. I was such a Twihard but now? Not so much. The books still have a special place on my shelf though.
I was diehard when the books came out, and one of those annoying girls with “Team Jacob” merchandise at the movie theater ? I was like 19-21 at the time. As I grew older…yikes ? But I still own all the books and movies ??♀️
Loved♡
Love them❤️
I love her stand alone book The Host even more though! I have easily read that one a half dozen tines❤️❤️
Liked them when I was younger but now the relationship dynamics really mess it all up for me – I’m currently skimming trough them and it’s a guilty pleasure but I don’t have the same love for them at all, and can recognise bad writing where I see it. Also… sparkly vampire never sat well with me.
I recognize that they are not the best writtem books, but i lived them for a long time. I probably would still reread.
Love
They’re good but with too much of Fantasy
They are a great easy read when you just want to relax and switch off for a while.
The writing is pretty good, especially for a teenage mindet. I think there’s a stigma against twilight these days because it became so huge that many people don’t want to admit how good it actually was.
Regardless, any novel/author that produces that sort of mania is deserving of respect.
Used to be a fan. Now I realize how creepy Edward was. The whole virgin thing… ew
Being a virgin is creepy? Really?
Watching bella sleep. And being a virgin for 100 years? A dude that hot? Yeah sure ?
Not believable at all
Besides I really hate all those stories of women/men marrying their first love and losing their virginity to them. It’s not realistic. That’s part of the reason why I love SJM.
I KNOW IT IS SO CREEPY! Back then I was like “ok that’s weird but fine” now I’m like “must protect Bella and get all these toxic men out of her life”
Loved them but I don’t think I could go back and enjoy them now.
Loved them
Love them! Just reread them all in April!
I love them, though I do understand the problems with them. They’re the books that got me back into reading when I took a short break of it.
I love the series cus the fact that brings me nostalgia and I do love the writing. But like someone mentioned above the dynamic was a little strange. Bella’s character isn’t something I would encourage my daughter to be like?? Idk. But as a young teenager I was like yessss Edward and Bella. And yes the idea of a sparkly vamp vs all the great things I read now I’m like okaaaay ? but tldr I would say read it once for the sake of you reading it cus it’s not horrendous.
They are like.csndy corn. I know it’s terrible but I just can’t stop eating them…
@Katharine lol i love candy corn!?
One of my absolute favorites. When I read them I WAS Bella, I truly felt like I was living her adventures by the way Stephanie wrote them. And rereading them every couple of years is awesome too.
Don’t like them ??♂️
Is it weird I actually enjoyed the movies? I got bored with the books
I did not enjoy them at all. Bella was a very annoying main character and Edward was creepy.
Read once, enjoyed once. Won’t read again
They were okay when I was 13, I wouldn’t read them now though. They’re a super toxic couple and reach borderline stalker levels
Loved them
Love them and reread them regularly!
Love them
They should all burn
When they first came out I really liked them but then I kind of started losing interest in them
Love them. The movies are okay
The movies ruined them
Exactly; I can’t even remember how much I liked them because of that.
I really liked the books
For some reason I absolutely hate them
@Carmella agreed.
l love them
They were what got me into reading, and I will always have a special place in my heart for the series. It’s not well written, but that’s okay. I can enjoy them anyway.
Love them 🙂
????
I love them ?
I used to be obsessed with them (I was 11 years old) but now I would never read them.
I didn’t love them when they first came out. Then the movies made me dislike them more. I’ll probably never pick them up again.
Much better than the movies! However they do get a bit slow and boring halfway through.
like ’em
Liked them as a teenager, not so much as an adult.
I love the Twilight Saga audio books that Ilyana Kadushin narrates.
The Host by the same author is good too.
I loved them a lot. But the host by her is my absolute favourite book. Highly recommended!
Must read
I was a twilight fan when I was younger, and some parts of it I still enjoy, but ultimately I think Bella is a very bland character with no real personality or agency and Edward is an abusive love interest.
It’s not amazing piece of writing, but compared to all the YA books I’ve read since then it’s a really good YA.
i was a fan when they first came out. Wouldnt re-read again tho
Wooow thank you so much for your recommendation!! ?I’ll read them definitely ?
Definitely better than the movies
Loved them. They were the first YA books I read. I enjoyed the movies too!
So I was a die-hard fan of them, both books and movies…I still love em, just not as much as my teenage self was
I really can’t stand them. I read them so I could have an informed opinion but I actually hated them. Bella is so cliché and linear, and I hated that the vampires went to school and walked in daylight. Meyer was so scared to actually kill off any of her characters that the final ‘battle’ was actually a chat in a field.
I’m sorry for my unpopular opinion ?
I read them when I was about 13 loved them then. Honestly 29 now and have never had the urge to re read them.
Poorly written with zero character development..
I loved them when I read them (I was about 11 years old), but I wouldn’t even consider re-reading them now.
Loved the first (LOVED), liked the second, third was okay, never finished the last (god-awful)
Not my cup of tea
Loved them wish I could read them again without knowing ?
I absolutely loved them all!!!!
Legend was also Christian mythology and kicked butt, but the female protag was a little watered down. It was nice that they backed real world consequences and family values but her whole reckless face was tough.
Read the books burn the dvds in a fire
The story is okay, even though Bella’s motives are debatable, but they are badly written. Purely based on the way Meyer expresses herself, don’t read them.
Ew. Just don’t even think about it
I used to like them when I was younger, but now they are just cringe and horrible
get rid of bella and edward and its good………i liked the graphic novels better
Loved them! hated the movies with a passion
I love them when I first read them (at 11 years old lol) and I sometimes go back and reread them when nothing else sounds appealing
I’m of the mind where I don’t ever take what I read too seriously. I can overlook bad grammar, real life relationship ideals, unrealistic events, Etc. because the point of reading for me is to get lost in the story and in the book and I did that with twilight. I love them! Breaking Dawn was my favorite book and movie
In the beginning I loved them but now I realise how dysfunctional and toxic Bella and Edward’s relationship was and the fact that the books and movies portrayed the idea that girls can’t live without their “true love” and I hate the fact that she gave in so easily after what happened in new moon
For a younger audience they’re good, now they’re just cringy
@Sarah to each her own! I first read them when I was 49 and still love them 10 years later. We are so lucky to live on a land where we can read what we want.
that’s true
Liked the first one a lot. Second was totally boring, 3 and 4 were kind of okay-ish in places and kind of cheesy-lame in other places, managed through them just to know, what’s going to happen. Also read Midnight Sun, which was ok for what it is. Same with movies – loved the first one, totally bored with 2, 3 and 4.
I don’t like the movie so the book already ruined it for me
They’re the first books that got me into reading so I’ll always love them no matter how crappy the writing actually is lol
I know right. We are in the same boat ?
My favorites. I didn’t think I’d like YA, then I read these 🙂
I tried to get into them but I couldn’t.. I don’t think I’m a huge vampire fan though
