To read (and re-read) more of the classics – focusing on Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy and Jane Austen – and more books by African authors.

Nina

More classics, more Stephen King, and all the long books I couldn’t read this year because of my reading challenge.

To whittle down my TBR list and not buy too many new books, I’m running out of room. We all know that’s not going to happen though.

To read some of the second hand books that I have, then pass them on to someone else so that I have room again for more books.

What’s the alphabet reading challenge

0
Lori

Reading a book for each letter of the alphabet

1
Jacinthe

Are you making a tbr for it or just looking on your shelf? Also with books that start with the are you counting it as “t”?

0
Lori

I picked books that are already on my tbr list-I mostly get things from the library, though I own a lot too, so the books I’ve picked will be from both. I just requested my A and B books from the library today. I am not counting “The,” that would eliminate too many books

0
Jacinthe

That would take away a lot of books for me too. I am interested in the challenge thou. What are your a & b books

0
Lori

About a Boy by Nick Hornby, Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature (a biography)

0
Jill

My goal is, for the first time in my adult life, not to set a goal. I want to do an experiment and see how much I read compared to when I’m counting. My hypothesis is I will actually read more. Normally I only read about 12 books between New Years and thanksgiving and another 12 between thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. I think if I’m not counting I might read a lot more in the first 11 months.

I’m leaning towards 75 or more if possible. I was able to complete 72 this year -not sure if I will be able to squeeze in one more! I’d also like to keep trying to read more classics and/or more nonfiction to continue opening up my preferences and knowledge! Books are such a gateway!

3
Reply
Alexandria

I opened up my preferences when o started reading other genres

0
Tiffany

I just started doing that this past year and have found how much more I enjoy certain genres and subgenres that I never thought I would before!

1
Leslie

Mine was 200 but I knocked it down to 190 – have 189 now, so I’m sure I’ll finish that last one. 🙂

I’m thinking of making it fewer this year because I read a lot of books that I felt were a waste of my time – some, though not all, in the race to try to keep up with my goal. Fewer but better ones.

To not purchase new books or get books from the library til I have read all of the books that I own. Im just going to try to just add to a list. I thought about not even looking into new books that come out so that I can stick with what I have but I’m afraid that I will miss something great and never even know that it is out there.

You know what? I’m just going to see how many I can read in a year. I’ll just keep tally on goodreads. If I put a numerical goal and don’t reach it, I’ll have a stank attitude. No stank attitudes! So we’ll see.

Its gonna be way down for me. I just started walking again so i really hope i still feel good for 2018.

Since i only read 20 books since my operation in May im thinking between maybe 35-40 and keep on hitting that treadmill and horseback riding. Maybe get a new job and learn new things.

But i have to admit, i do feel guilty. Books are the best companions.
