Mr. Pines Mixed-Up Signs. A sign painter in town lost his glasses prior to his installation of all the new signs he painted. Example: He put the bakery sign on the gas station, pet store sign on the library — funny stuff when you’re a kid. ?

Without A Home by Hector Malot (actually translated in English as Nobody’s Boy). This was the first book ever to have me crying out loud without a pause, hiccups and all, to the point where I had to put the book down for a few hours to compose myself.
Rusty by S.P. Meek. I found it with a diligent online search several years ago and got a copy and reread it for the first time in over 40 years and loved it all over again.
When I was about 10 years old, I read 50 or 60 biographies. There were books for many famous Americans. They were by different authors but apparently by the same publisher. My guess would be that they were published in the 50’s. Each book was approximately 200 pages. There were some that I didn’t get around to reading before I went on to other books. I would love to find the books again.
The Charlie Brown Cyclopedia. A series of books that I believe you bought in supermarkets in the early 80s. It was a series of books covering different subjects.

A friend back in the eighties suggested this title. I am going to look again. Didn’t have the author until now and I think I looked under Five story mistake. Thank you! Wonderful book from my childhood in the 60s. I’ll let u know if I find it!

I always liked the Andrew Lang fairy tale books– the title were colors. The red fairy boo, the blue fairy book, the yellow fairy book, the blue fairy book.
I kept a LOT of my old books from when I was a kid. I love reading them to mine or introducing them to the stories. I can’t wait to do the same thing with my grandson! 🙂
I had a book w/ pics of a teddy bear dressed up as different characters on each page. Whenever I didn’t know what to do, I looked through that book to give me ideas what to play.
Signature books. The story of…George Washington, Mozart, Florence Nightengale- I loved these books which introduced me to famous people from history and started me on my love of history. Published in the 60s and 70s by Grosset & Dunlap
In grade school we had this little paper called a Weekly Reader and in the back were books you could buy – my first purchase ever a book was a small paperback about Helen Keller.
I loved the weekly reader! It was always so exciting picking out what to get. And we didnt have a bookstore, so it was my only regular source for books.
The series of Freddy the Pig Books by Walter R. Books, about the adventures of talking farm animals and their adventures. Great for Grammar school kids.

I found them. They were the Childhood of Famous Americans series. I loved them.

@Sean did they make the Loch Ness story into a movie? I remember seeing something like that, but at the end the real monster made an appearance.

Okay, I’m aging myself, but I loved the Betsy Tacey books. Also, Black Beauty was the first book to make me cry.
I bought my girls the Betsy/Tacey books. They own all of them, and LOVED them! 🙂 They were one of my favorite reads as a kid! 🙂

I had a book about Helen Keller from the weekly reader too. It had the Braille alphabet on the back cover. I loved that book! Her story fascinated me!
