Such sad books I’m seeing. This one must have been tough.
Flowers for Algernon – Daniel Keyes

Thirteen Reasons Why – it was very appropriate for that time in my life when I read it. I don’t know that it would have the same effect now.

I literally slammed the book shut and threw it across the bed when I read ‘that part.’ I didn’t pick it up for 2 days. I was so mad.
Thirteen Reasons Why is on my shelf to be read at some point.

Exodus
“Someone else’s Son” by Samantha Hayes
Night by Elie Weisel! Such a sad, but extremely powerful read. I HIGHLY recommend it. It’s one of those “must read before you die” books.
@Dorian same sentiments!
Has anyone said Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows yet? I bawled through 3/4 of that book. Such a good ending to a phenomenal story, though.
Harriet Arnow wrote books about people who lived in Kentucky in Hunters Horn, and a family that moved to Detroit to work in the factories during hard times, in The Dollmaker. Her characters were so real, and the stories so plausible that when unhappiness rears it’s inevitable head, you feel the pain. Most libraries still have her books, and they are worth reading.
Ooo.. Ooo… Ooo!!! Try these!!! I read them in school. They’re so sad. But so good. The “Dawn Rochelle series” by Lurlene McDaniel!
That’s a brilliant book!
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. It’s one of my favourites.
A little life
The couple next door
The Road
Veronika Chooses to Die by Paulo Cohleo was an emotional read. So far I am still not up to Missing Mom by Joyce Carol Oates. I am afraid it will bring up too many memories of my mom’s death.
Untamed State by Roxane Gay
Any Wally Lamb book. She’s come undone is awesome. If you like emotional roller coasters that turn your life upside down.
Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell. I considered it a light read but I couldn’t stop thinking about the daughter after I finished. Still makes me sad when I think about it.
