I loved it. The first book was hard to get started, for me, but after I got to about page 100, I was hooked!

Had a hard time getting into it. I loved the foreign films of the series…does that count, I had to read the subtitles ?

They were on Netflix, I didn’t watch the movie, when I realized I would miss it spending all my time reading the subtitles in English.

Jennifer

@Jennifer honestly after about 15 minutes you forget you’re reading subtitles

Excellent read but it is a series you need to pay attention to the details

It took me awhile to get through the first one and I feel like I forced myself to finish it b/c I wanted to see the movie. I have a couple of the other ones on my NOOK and am in no rush to read them

I agree with everyone who said it was slow to start. Once I was hooked, I couldn’t put it down. I also flew through the second book. I can’t bring myself to finish the third one because I don’t want the original series to end. I know another author took over the series when the original author died but it’s not the same. My goal is to finish the third one this year.

It’s definitely not the same… the first three were great reads, the others just so-so.

The story is good: the characters are interesting and the plot is intriguing. The writing does get bogged down in details at certain points, but the books still tell a good story.

My grandparents are from this area. I have been to some of the town’s in the books. Made it extra good to me.

My grandfather was from Sweden and I still have some family there but not sure of the geography to know if they were close in area. But it definitely had an appeal to me because of Sweden.

Loved the first book, but I couldn’t take the violence so stopped. I heard a woman whose dad was murdered speak about why society sees murder as entertainment. Her story really affected me.

I had trouble with the level of violence as well, but that scene with the nail gun – justice served!

Great series. I lived six years in Europe growing up…three in Britian, three in Germany. Grade school and middle school. The US is NOT the center of the universe.

Good point. Violence on screen, or even on audiobook seems to me more extreme than reading it.
