Definitely a stepping stone into a genre I didn’t normally read, didn’t hate them but definitely wasn’t the best books…But I enjoyed the journey.

I escaped that type of relationship. I finished the first and was sick to my stomach but tried the second idk why I did but didn’t finish it.. when the movie was released and it got all the hype I had to stop watching the news, my nightmares returned and already dreading the hype for the upcoming release of the second move.. I was lucky I survived

1
TanyaQuestion author

Thank goodness you’re rid of that ????

1
Misty

Yes, I left everything behind me and my two kids escaped in just two suitcases and moved 12 hours away that was the easy part.. but it’s been almost 4 years we are safe now but I try to tell my story to help others.

2
Doris

This is my comment from the previous post: started Fifty Shades of Grey just because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Hated it, absolutely hated it after the first page. So so so poorly written. I ditched it after maybe 10 pages and felt really sad that a lot of people really really like that sort of garbage.

I was, I only read a couple chapters and never picked it back up. I bought all 3 because my best friend was crazy about the books so I wanted to see what the big deal was and I couldn’t do it.

Terrible, terrible books. I skimmed sooo much and only because I bought the 3 pack figuring I would love the books because they were so highly rated. I will never buy a pack of books again unless I have read them before. Just terrible. It’s just sex, and let’s be honest, there are better books out there with better written sex scenes.

1
Reply
Misty

It was about control and emotional abuse that for some reason is ok because the sex was good and he was rich

0
Angela

Well let’s just say it’s fantasy and someone gets off on reading about abuse. Blah blah blah. (Playing devils advocate). But the books themselves are just terrible. Written so horribly bad. So they just aren’t good. I don’t get how someone says they like it.

0
Heather

Those books are such a bad representation of the BDSM world and it scares me to think that there are readers who see the abuse and think it’s romantic. On this topic: does anyone have any books similar to the “New Adult” kind of genre FSOG falls under? I’ve been trying to find better alternatives but the two I’ve read in the last few weeks haven’t been great either. I’m thinking maybe the genre isn’t for me.

I read them to see what it was all about; wasn’t impressed. But can we stop with the bashing? No matter what we think, someone out there enjoyed them and it made their day better. Isn’t that why we all read? No book bashing guys, love ya

4

1

All the sexual blah blah things bored me. But I seriously loved the love chemistry. A man with a past about sexual abuse.

Liz

I did read the trilogy, because 1) I did want to see what the hype was about and 2) once I start I dont stop.
But I did dislike the books. I was in an abusive relationship and a lot of things that Christian says and does reminds me of my ex. He just seems very controlling and manipulative.
I am now in a healthy positive relationship that does happen to have a bdsm side to it. But he is NOTHING like Christian. While he does have certain “rules” for me they are generally for my own safety (because I’m accident prone) or for our pleasure. Like he insists on opening the car door for me, especially in the winter time when it can be icy. And if I go for a walk I’m to tell him when I leave and when I get home.

Actually I wouldn’t say that I hated the books, I have read one book in series , I didn’t read further because it doesn’t quite actually fit my genre criteria. Although I think every single book is a piece of art, it takes a lot of courage to right something so sensual, besides insulting any book or writer is like insulting every single author. A book is a book, no matter what’s in inside. So hating on this , just doesn’t feel right

I have literally no interest in a book where a woman is willingly dominated by a man to the point of abuse and torture. I think the whole concept runs counter to everything women claim to be trying to accomplish in the world. Being someone’s doormat…yay, sign me up, said no strong intelligent woman ever.

I read the first and I thought-I would never read the other two, but I did. To me, it just goes back and forth so much-because she leaves him and then comes back-just like that.. And some the sex scenes-sounded painful. LOL But it kinda reminded me of two of the Twilight Series books-because Bella is going back and forth between Edward and Jacob, so much. But I just did not like them. I would not buy them.

1
Reply
Sarah

I read 2 of the Twilight series but book 3 was exactly the same so gave up.

0
Karen

Yeah, it goes on like that for two books-and then finally in the end they turn her into a vampire.

1
Sarah

The first one was good, then it gets a bit ‘make money by writing the same again’ .

As much as I can enjoy erotica, I found it lackluster, it completely gets the bdsm relationship wrong, the hero is a douche and the heroine doesn’t even have a tiniest bit of spine, could not relate to her or her actions. Plus, writing that reads like really bad fanfiction. And believe me, fanfiction can be amazing, in capable hands
