first books i ever read loved them fell in love with the story now i have read over 1000 books all thanks to fsog so no never found them boring but greatful i read them now i have a love for books
I escaped that type of relationship. I finished the first and was sick to my stomach but tried the second idk why I did but didn’t finish it.. when the movie was released and it got all the hype I had to stop watching the news, my nightmares returned and already dreading the hype for the upcoming release of the second move.. I was lucky I survived
Yes, I left everything behind me and my two kids escaped in just two suitcases and moved 12 hours away that was the easy part.. but it’s been almost 4 years we are safe now but I try to tell my story to help others.
This is my comment from the previous post: started Fifty Shades of Grey just because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Hated it, absolutely hated it after the first page. So so so poorly written. I ditched it after maybe 10 pages and felt really sad that a lot of people really really like that sort of garbage.
I was, I only read a couple chapters and never picked it back up. I bought all 3 because my best friend was crazy about the books so I wanted to see what the big deal was and I couldn’t do it.
Terrible, terrible books. I skimmed sooo much and only because I bought the 3 pack figuring I would love the books because they were so highly rated. I will never buy a pack of books again unless I have read them before. Just terrible. It’s just sex, and let’s be honest, there are better books out there with better written sex scenes.
Well let’s just say it’s fantasy and someone gets off on reading about abuse. Blah blah blah. (Playing devils advocate). But the books themselves are just terrible. Written so horribly bad. So they just aren’t good. I don’t get how someone says they like it.
Those books are such a bad representation of the BDSM world and it scares me to think that there are readers who see the abuse and think it’s romantic. On this topic: does anyone have any books similar to the “New Adult” kind of genre FSOG falls under? I’ve been trying to find better alternatives but the two I’ve read in the last few weeks haven’t been great either. I’m thinking maybe the genre isn’t for me.
I read them to see what it was all about; wasn’t impressed. But can we stop with the bashing? No matter what we think, someone out there enjoyed them and it made their day better. Isn’t that why we all read? No book bashing guys, love ya
I did read the trilogy, because 1) I did want to see what the hype was about and 2) once I start I dont stop. But I did dislike the books. I was in an abusive relationship and a lot of things that Christian says and does reminds me of my ex. He just seems very controlling and manipulative. I am now in a healthy positive relationship that does happen to have a bdsm side to it. But he is NOTHING like Christian. While he does have certain “rules” for me they are generally for my own safety (because I’m accident prone) or for our pleasure. Like he insists on opening the car door for me, especially in the winter time when it can be icy. And if I go for a walk I’m to tell him when I leave and when I get home.
Fortunately at the start of the big hype I did Not buy and from what I’ve heard and seen prob won’t read them. Similar hype over the Dragon Tatoo girl trilogy meant I did Not buy or read but was lent them and loved them . Book 4 seems empty and cannot get into it. Quite enjoyed movie…
I read them because of the hype at the time. By the third book I was thinking, could you two stop all that shenanigans so we can move on with the ‘story’? I have no interest whatsoever in seeing the films though!
I tried but could only manage up until the start of book 3. I got bored in the end and found the story a little far fetched and repetitive..at some points I found myself laughing out loud!.. suppose it’s like marmite..either loved them or hated them ?
I have found that some people read books I connect with and other friends I love just as much but books that they like I know I will hate LOL. So I have never read any of this series (and proud of it LOL), mainly because the topic makes me feel ill but also because every reader I respect hated it haha … So you are not alone!
Actually I wouldn’t say that I hated the books, I have read one book in series , I didn’t read further because it doesn’t quite actually fit my genre criteria. Although I think every single book is a piece of art, it takes a lot of courage to right something so sensual, besides insulting any book or writer is like insulting every single author. A book is a book, no matter what’s in inside. So hating on this , just doesn’t feel right
I have literally no interest in a book where a woman is willingly dominated by a man to the point of abuse and torture. I think the whole concept runs counter to everything women claim to be trying to accomplish in the world. Being someone’s doormat…yay, sign me up, said no strong intelligent woman ever.
Even the sex scenes were formulaic and boring after a while. I congratulate the author on her financial success but absolutely no D.H Lawrence Lady Chatterly’s Lover quality to be found anywhere near these books.
I read the first and I thought-I would never read the other two, but I did. To me, it just goes back and forth so much-because she leaves him and then comes back-just like that.. And some the sex scenes-sounded painful. LOL But it kinda reminded me of two of the Twilight Series books-because Bella is going back and forth between Edward and Jacob, so much. But I just did not like them. I would not buy them.
I was given the first one and gave it right back. Another friend of mine had told me about the story and I knew I would not like it.Different strokes for different folds.
As much as I can enjoy erotica, I found it lackluster, it completely gets the bdsm relationship wrong, the hero is a douche and the heroine doesn’t even have a tiniest bit of spine, could not relate to her or her actions. Plus, writing that reads like really bad fanfiction. And believe me, fanfiction can be amazing, in capable hands
Read the first one….hated it so much but i know a lot of people loved it. Found the writing too hard to read as it was so bad. I know books for 6 years old better written
im not into slamming books and authors hardwork at the end of the day its a fiction story meaning not real she can write what ever she wants like all other authors yes people are not going to like it and them some will but this site i thought was about the love of books not slagging them off
I got about a third of the way into the first book and had to put it down, the writing in it is horrendous, my 10 year old niece could write a better book (minus the sex obviously) mind you when you take that out its nothing more than a Mills and Boon and I feel even they would be offended by the comparison…
first books i ever read
loved them fell in love with the story
now i have read over 1000 books all thanks to fsog
so no never found them boring but greatful i read them now i have a love for books
lol and no i dont just read books like fsog
i love fae books shifter books and vampire lol
I didn’t think you read just fsog, don’t worry ?
Definitely a stepping stone into a genre I didn’t normally read, didn’t hate them but definitely wasn’t the best books…But I enjoyed the journey.
Count me in
Horrible book
Thank you!!!
Thank goodness you’re rid of that ????
Yes, I left everything behind me and my two kids escaped in just two suitcases and moved 12 hours away that was the easy part.. but it’s been almost 4 years we are safe now but I try to tell my story to help others.

No I read the first and couldn’t finish the second
I was, I only read a couple chapters and never picked it back up. I bought all 3 because my best friend was crazy about the books so I wanted to see what the big deal was and I couldn’t do it.
My brother-in-law read ALL of them ????
I saw the movie first I’ve only seen it once tell you the truth I can’t remember if I liked the movie either
It took me like 2 months to finish that book
I read a paragraph
Terrible, terrible books. I skimmed sooo much and only because I bought the 3 pack figuring I would love the books because they were so highly rated. I will never buy a pack of books again unless I have read them before. Just terrible. It’s just sex, and let’s be honest, there are better books out there with better written sex scenes.
It was about control and emotional abuse that for some reason is ok because the sex was good and he was rich
Well let’s just say it’s fantasy and someone gets off on reading about abuse. Blah blah blah. (Playing devils advocate). But the books themselves are just terrible. Written so horribly bad. So they just aren’t good. I don’t get how someone says they like it.

Nope I hated it
Hahaha I’ve never read it but I’ve been told I should just for shits and giggles.
i’m i the only one who thought that christian is sick for wanting to beat and sleep with women that look like his mother
I was finish after the beating at the end of the first book and the contract.. he’s sick and this isn’t a love story.
I didn’t read the books but saw the movies and well they’re ok…
the movie is nothing to the book the movie lock of 95% of whats on the book
I couldn’t even get through the first one ? Incredibly boring
I read them to see what it was all about; wasn’t impressed. But can we stop with the bashing? No matter what we think, someone out there enjoyed them and it made their day better. Isn’t that why we all read? No book bashing guys, love ya
We’re not bashing – We’re giving our opinions ?
All the sexual blah blah things bored me. But I seriously loved the love chemistry. A man with a past about sexual abuse.
I did read the trilogy, because 1) I did want to see what the hype was about and 2) once I start I dont stop.
But I did dislike the books. I was in an abusive relationship and a lot of things that Christian says and does reminds me of my ex. He just seems very controlling and manipulative.

Another survivor ?
i read first one and the second because of a friend adn it was pure torture to me
Thought the were very badly written. Must have been a brilliant PR guy to be able to create such hype
Riiight!!
No not at all!
They’re a horrible representation of the bdsm commmunity. That is not a dom sub relationship that is a psychotic narcissistic abuser and a victim
Nope!
Fell asleep everytime i started ?
Couldn’t read past page 1…
@Donna we are not alone!!!
Nope! ?
My girlfriend LOVED it, I don’t think I made it passed the second chapter.
Never bothered to read it… Too many other good books beckoned
Smart move @Susan
No it was very underwhelming! Much better books out there in the same genre that didn’t even get a sceric of the attention this series did.
I dont like the movie of the book
I haven’t read it, but one of my friends read the series and said 50 Shaded of Grey is the worst one.
I thought is was so-so… Crossfire Series was better.
*googles Crossfire Series*
lol its much better. by Sylvia Day
Thx! ??
really i thought that it was way twisted then fsog
not interested in reading it
I found it absolutely amazing! I fell in love with the trilogy. However, Fifty Shades of Grey (#1) wasn’t that good. The two sequels were much better!
Have to read it.but um tired to hear everyday about the movie has made from the book from my sis.haha.
I’m scared to read book four as I just can’t imagine it being as good, given that it’s written by someone else ?
First two were good
I read the first book and tried my best with the second one… I managed a few chapters, but then had to stop… boring….
Crossfire series is MUCH better!!!!
I recommend this one too
I read about half of the First book, than I had to give up (which hardly ever happens)…you are not alone!
Probably not
Terrible , but I read all three for some reason lol
Never even tried.
Couldn’t bring myself to read them ! Will admit to flicking through to find the good bits lol x
i didnt try as well…
I read them because of the hype at the time. By the third book I was thinking, could you two stop all that shenanigans so we can move on with the ‘story’? I have no interest whatsoever in seeing the films though!
I found it interesting, so I read all three
Attempted to read it three times, never made it past page 47 ??
Oh, you should all just read Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde, which is much better ?
I was literally trapped in a tent in the middle of Death Valley with nothing else to read… and I regretted it.
I tried but could only manage up until the start of book 3. I got bored in the end and found the story a little far fetched and repetitive..at some points I found myself laughing out loud!.. suppose it’s like marmite..either loved them or hated them ?
Nope, I didn’t even get through the first book. No desire to try again or see the films.
Didn’t even attempt to read it.
I thought it was shit crossfire series was way better
In the aftermath I hated the books, poorly written and a waste of money and time!
I have found that some people read books I connect with and other friends I love just as much but books that they like I know I will hate LOL. So I have never read any of this series (and proud of it LOL), mainly because the topic makes me feel ill but also because every reader I respect hated it haha … So you are not alone!
I started to read it, but I didn’t like her writing.
I couldn’t finish the damn book!
Bored!!! All 3 books could be summarised on the back of abox of matches!!! Awful, awful books
So hating on this , just doesn’t feel right
I don’t read bad literature.
If anybody wants to read a good erotic book, try “Lady Chatterley’s Lover”, by D.H. Lawrence.
I have literally no interest in a book where a woman is willingly dominated by a man to the point of abuse and torture. I think the whole concept runs counter to everything women claim to be trying to accomplish in the world. Being someone’s doormat…yay, sign me up, said no strong intelligent woman ever.
It was not my cup tea either!
I haven’t even read/watched it.
I edit manuscripts and could only read the first chapter. Wanted to get out my red pencil and start making corrections!
????
No, I was as well lol. Too much sex in it lol. Got boring after a bit x
I attempted to read it but stopped after 50 pages. It was very boring
Same here.
It was not only boring, it was horribly written. The dialogue was sophomoric, the characters one-dimensional.
Nope but I wanna see who that girl is in the trailer
I WAS BORED SILLY
I read it, but I enjoy trashy romance novels. It found them entertaining. I was underwhelmed by the movies.
The books didnt interest me at all.
OMG I can’t understand why do so many readers out there loved it! Couldn’t finish.
Yes, totally bored. It was total waste of my time. Couldn’t be bothered to read the follow up.
I loved these but agree that crossfire series is better
Boring garbage and an insult to true literature.
I read the trilogy found the writing atrocious but I guess I read the book not for storyline.. Hehe
Even the sex scenes were formulaic and boring after a while. I congratulate the author on her financial success but absolutely no D.H Lawrence Lady Chatterly’s Lover quality to be found anywhere near these books.
Gonna have to check out DH Lawrence’s work…
@Tanya https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._H._Lawrence
Thx!!
icky! The contract that he wanted her to sign was appalling! grrrrr
Never had an interest in opening it up.
Never wanted to read it although I noticed that a lot of women who never read books were reading this series.
I agree
Not for me. Badly written apart from anything else
Didn’t read it.
Don’t blame you
I agree it was boring
ughh me too
Didn’t read
I read the first and I thought-I would never read the other two, but I did. To me, it just goes back and forth so much-because she leaves him and then comes back-just like that.. And some the sex scenes-sounded painful. LOL But it kinda reminded me of two of the Twilight Series books-because Bella is going back and forth between Edward and Jacob, so much. But I just did not like them. I would not buy them.
I read 2 of the Twilight series but book 3 was exactly the same so gave up.
Yeah, it goes on like that for two books-and then finally in the end they turn her into a vampire.
The first one was good, then it gets a bit ‘make money by writing the same again’ .
I was given the first one and gave it right back. Another friend of mine had told me about the story and I knew I would not like it.Different strokes for different folds.
You would not believe how many knock off there are of Fifty Shades of Grey. It is ridiculous.
It is,in my opinion .
I’ve never read them
As much as I can enjoy erotica, I found it lackluster, it completely gets the bdsm relationship wrong, the hero is a douche and the heroine doesn’t even have a tiniest bit of spine, could not relate to her or her actions. Plus, writing that reads like really bad fanfiction. And believe me, fanfiction can be amazing, in capable hands
Could not agree more!
No, you aren’t. I didn’t get through the first couple of pages.
Refuse to read it or watch it
No. Tried to read it….got a half page in…not for me…didn’t even try the movie. No point.
Hated it. Very, very bad writing.
That series did not interest me.
Read the first one….hated it so much but i know a lot of people loved it. Found the writing too hard to read as it was so bad. I know books for 6 years old better written
I tried to read it and just had no desire to finish. I read maybe 20 pages.

I was just not drawn to reading it or to seeing the movie. Just not my kind of thing.
it was terrible!
i always thought this site was for loving books not slagging off authors and books
my mistake
Part of loving books is critiquing them. It’s ok to express dislike for a book or author.
????????
this is not Critiquing
Yes, dear, it is
No it’s expressing people’s opinion no reason to get upset
not getting upset just expressing my opinion
fiction book that is all i am saying
Me
I’m not going to even pick the book up to read. Have no desire to.
lol
im not into slamming books and authors hardwork at the end of the day its a fiction story meaning not real
she can write what ever she wants like all other authors
yes people are not going to like it and them some will
but this site i thought was about the love of books not slagging them off
its fiction
end of story
Me too..awful writing n only saw part of the movie 🙂
I got about a third of the way into the first book and had to put it down, the writing in it is horrendous, my 10 year old niece could write a better book (minus the sex obviously) mind you when you take that out its nothing more than a Mills and Boon and I feel even they would be offended by the comparison…
Me!
50 Shades of Grey. Pretty much sums up the first 50 words and it doesn’t get any better…….
??
Nope. Dumb book.
my mom won’t let me read it.
