I just downloaded The Racketeer on my Kindle. I read a couple of sample chapters and it seems really good.

I was disappointed in his recent The Rooster Bar.

I’m still trying to make my way through this. It’s so boring. And I’m not really sure I like the premise. Or the characters, other than the female–can’t remember her name. Yeah. It is that unmemorable.

I loved the Rooster Bar…it was an interesting take on the student loan crisis…if your a student this one might be fun for you to read.

I’m not a huge fan of John Grisham books, but I did like Pelican Brief, Rainmaker and Runaway Jury. And for those not directly connected to movies and a good first book would be Street Lawyer.

And, I may be in the minority here but I really enjoyed The Innocent Man. It’s not his norm, it’s non-fiction.

Runaway Jury. This book was written in the 1990’s. There is a movie made based on the story but there is one major change in the movie because the producers of the movie didn’t want to get sued by big tobacco. The main story line concerns a smoker who is suing tobacco company for selling deadly addictive product. At the time this was a big story because consumers were just beginning to suspect Big Tobacco companies did know that cigarettes were addictive and continued to sell product and keep the public unaware of the risks associated with smoking. Its a great story, one worth reading to understand how big corporations can manipulate legal system. The movie bigwigs were afraid of being sued and changed the plot from big tobacco to gun lobby which at the time had far less money, and turned a good story into a made for boilerplate movie. I highly recommend it because I still think the book stands up better today than it did in 1990s and may have been the blue print for his later books. As for background information, might want to read “Dark Money” by Jane Mayer, roughly the same idea only Dark Money is nonfiction while Runaway jury is fiction. Hope this helps.

The Rainmaker, if you haven’t seen the movie. Its witty and touches your heart at the right places. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’d shed a tear or two.

A few years back wasn’t there a sequel to a Time To Kill? I never did read it, and I don’t know the name of it. The book came out years after a time to kill. Totally agree, Stacy Malone Lewis the book is a 1000 times better then the movie!
