I just don’t understand the hype about Stephen King. I’ve read some of his older and newer books, because i’m trying to see what everyone loves about them. Such a miss for me. ?

Tammy

And he is definitely my favorite author. These authors are lucky we are all different! 🙂

1
Linda

Absolutely, I could not agree more! 🙂

Anne Rice and Chuck Palahniuk are my 2nd and 3rd favorites. Have you read their work?

0
Linda

No, I have not.

I used to read his books, then realized I really didn’t like his writing style. The same happened with Robin Cook. I don’t like his writing perspective and probably would not like him in person.

While I am a big fan, I find his books have 3 things always:
Southern California setting
A glock of some sort
And a golden retriever
His writing is very predictable but I still like it.

The thing about Dean Koontz is when he’s good he’s very very good and when he is bad he is rotten. I found listening to his books on audio is much more enjoyable. He does at times have a bad habit of using 15 words when he could have used one. Watchers and boys life were two of my favorites.

Read one once that my college roommate told me was soooo scary. Didn’t shiver once. Found it boring and predictable. (I don’t remember the title, but it was about a whole town that vanishes much in the spirit of the Mary Celeste and the Lost Colony of Roanoke, both stories of which I find more intriguing than Mr. Koontz’s hackneyed writing.

Tick Tock was my first. I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t the story that unfolded. Didn’t read another for years. Re-read Tick Tock with a different mindset and really enjoyed it. I still think about the idea in The Door To December. After a couple more it seemed to me that his writing has different personalities. If that makes sense. The Darkest Evening Of The Year has a different feel than the first few, almost sweet. Then The Odd Thomas stories had a different vibe for me. I enjoy the mood (right word?) shifts.

Living legend! For some odd reason, love TickTock to bits. Odd Thomas series is a must read. Last work read was his Frankenstein: Prodigal Son, it was a real edge of the seat thriller.
