I read this recently and I was definitely intrigued by the subject. But I was pretty disappointed by the ending/ resolution. I thought that Picoult ended it too conveniently.

Thought it was rushed and a total cop out.

One of my favorite books and the first one I ever read of hers. The ending was a total shock to me and I almost always see the ending coming.

I read it and it was well written as all her books are but it fundamentally was intended to raise questions. I don’t want to give away the story but it is a good read if you like to wrestle with hard decisions in this case about parental responsibility to their children and the reverse.

I have the book on my TBR but I’ve heard great things about the book. There’s a movie, and that was fantastic. I can’t wait to read the book.

Fyi the movie is completely different and awful as in the ending of the book is completely different. I heard picoult was really pissed and had to leave the set or something but I don’t want to spoil how it changes

2
Amanda

@Aneesah I cant wait to read the book. I meant to read it this summer but I found too many other books to read. Still working on that list. Lol.

Aneesah Chaudhari the movie was so horrible, I could barely wait for it to end. It goes without saying that it’s unfaithful to the actual ending, also I felt no sympathy for any of the characters. Cameron Diaz was unconvincing as the mother Sara.

Aneesah

@Shruti I hated the book not a fan of the author at all but the movie was just awful I didnt understand why they bought the rights to the book if they changed everything and had it as a typical story of a girl coping with cancer

Sharon

The book is so much better than the movie which you probably gathered isn’t true to the story x

Not alone. I think she’s a terrible writer. Hated this book.

Yeah I guess that’s it. The writing isn t good & it’s more about the message, the issue she wants you to think about & I find it contrived

I’m in the minority about the movie. I thought it was touching, even with the changes. I read Jodi’s books and enjoy them, but they are intense and I often wait months before reading another. Her endings nearly always make me want to pull my hair out.

Read it on the plane and was literally blubbing. Was so embarrassing but what a journey I had in both senses. This book will stay with you. If you’ve seen the film it’s not the same so it’ll be a fresh story for you. Enjoy.

Not a Picoult fan. She is a predictable method writer with very uncreative themes. Just my opinion of ,course.

I loved it. They made it into a film but the film is slightly different, and of course the book is better. It’s a great story and the narrator is each of the characters telling it from their perspective.
