I grew up very close to where the book/movie was based in. I am a coal miner’s daughter and grand daughter.

In no particular order… The new IT movie… (but maybe it’s because I’m this weird hybrid of an eighties/nineties kid) Wild, Dolores Claiborne, Misery, LOTR, Fried Green Tomatoes… as far as TFIOS goes, I actually liked the movie a little more because on paper… the Protagonist seemed a little infuriating and Mary Sue-ish at times.

Oh wow, Fried Green Tomatoes. Excellent in both forms.

I don’t know nothing about birthin no babies Miss Scarlett. My mom’s fav movie of all time. And I have read the book a couple of times.

1
Cheryl

@Shawn as a young Teen, I read (and cried over) that book so often that I twice had to replace my copy because the ink in the last couple chapters smeared so much that whole pages were illegible!!!

0
Shawn

Wow. I thought I was the only one. I had read GWTW and all the classics by the time I was in 7th grade. My mom was a big believer in children reading and not sitting glued to the T.V.

0
Cheryl

Nope….you are definitely not alone! I learned to read before I started kindergarten, and by third grade I was my own independent reading group! Whenever a book report was assigned I was the wierdo asking if I could do it on a book I’d already finished or if the teacher wanted me to read a new book….which I would do gladly!!

1
Shawn

Cheryl Homan Book nerds unite. I was the odd ball in my family and at a school. You never caught me without a book in my hands. In fact, I missed getting off the bus at my stop because I was too busy reading.

2
Cheryl

I used to walk to school….reading the whole way!! It really developed my peripheral vision!! ?

1
Melissa

GWTW is both my favorite book and movie. I first saw the movie at the age of 9 read the book by the age of 11. It was a hard book to find and I didn’t live near a library and it wasn’t in my school library either.

1
Cheryl

I don’t recall having any trouble finding it (and, as I told Shawn above, I had to replace my copy twice, cause my tears smeared the ink in the last few chapters!), but I grew up in NYC, so I had access to more of a variety. I don’t think I saw the movie until after I read the book, but, yeah, that was great, too, and still one of my faves!

0
Melissa

To a 9 year old girl those dresses were to die for in the movie.

1
Cheryl

I did love them myself. But the dress I most associate with the movie, wasn’t even in the movie! Did you ever see Carol Burnett’s spoof: “Went with the Wind”? When she came down the grand staircase in a dress made from the curtains, saying “I saw it in the window and just couldn’t resist”…..and they were still on the curtain rod!!! The rod was laying across her shoulders and sticking out on both sides….it still gets me giggling whenever I think of it!! But *that’s* the dress I think of when I think of that movie!

1
Melissa

No I haven’t seen it I wonder if I could find it on Amazon. lol

1
Cheryl

I don’t know about Amazon, but I have seen half-hour infomercials selling the series!

I will check later. Right now I have housework to do. Would much rather be reading though.

Hardly any as they generally crucify the book, but the LOTR films are pretty good and the classic Gregory Peck version of To Kill Mocking Bird is great. I actually rather like the movie version of The Host by Stephanie Meyer – it managed to cut out a lot of the agonising in the book, which was definitely for the good.

One I like better than the book is Last of the Mohicans. Yes, it’s totally different. The book is waaaaaaayyyy drawn out. Gregory Peck brought Atticus Finch to life!

Also agree with The Fault in Our Stars, they did a great job on the movie. I think it helped that John Green was there very step of the way.

I also felt that Girl, Interrupted was very well done and liked that movie.

I think that Gone, Girl did a good job too.
