Possession, the book was by A S Bryant (I think) and the film starred Gwyneth Paltrow and Aaron Earkhart (not sure how it’s spelt) I loved both the book and the film.
In no particular order… The new IT movie… (but maybe it’s because I’m this weird hybrid of an eighties/nineties kid) Wild, Dolores Claiborne, Misery, LOTR, Fried Green Tomatoes… as far as TFIOS goes, I actually liked the movie a little more because on paper… the Protagonist seemed a little infuriating and Mary Sue-ish at times.
@Shawn as a young Teen, I read (and cried over) that book so often that I twice had to replace my copy because the ink in the last couple chapters smeared so much that whole pages were illegible!!!
Wow. I thought I was the only one. I had read GWTW and all the classics by the time I was in 7th grade. My mom was a big believer in children reading and not sitting glued to the T.V.
Nope….you are definitely not alone! I learned to read before I started kindergarten, and by third grade I was my own independent reading group! Whenever a book report was assigned I was the wierdo asking if I could do it on a book I’d already finished or if the teacher wanted me to read a new book….which I would do gladly!!
Cheryl Homan Book nerds unite. I was the odd ball in my family and at a school. You never caught me without a book in my hands. In fact, I missed getting off the bus at my stop because I was too busy reading.
GWTW is both my favorite book and movie. I first saw the movie at the age of 9 read the book by the age of 11. It was a hard book to find and I didn’t live near a library and it wasn’t in my school library either.
I don’t recall having any trouble finding it (and, as I told Shawn above, I had to replace my copy twice, cause my tears smeared the ink in the last few chapters!), but I grew up in NYC, so I had access to more of a variety. I don’t think I saw the movie until after I read the book, but, yeah, that was great, too, and still one of my faves!
I did love them myself. But the dress I most associate with the movie, wasn’t even in the movie! Did you ever see Carol Burnett’s spoof: “Went with the Wind”? When she came down the grand staircase in a dress made from the curtains, saying “I saw it in the window and just couldn’t resist”…..and they were still on the curtain rod!!! The rod was laying across her shoulders and sticking out on both sides….it still gets me giggling whenever I think of it!! But *that’s* the dress I think of when I think of that movie!
Love Fault in Our Stars. I really really enjoyed Fault in Our Stars but hated Paper Towns. :/ I am worried about Looking For Alaska because that is my favorite Greene book. Macbeth is high on that list of movie books i loved. There are many actually but you know the book always tops
Hardly any as they generally crucify the book, but the LOTR films are pretty good and the classic Gregory Peck version of To Kill Mocking Bird is great. I actually rather like the movie version of The Host by Stephanie Meyer – it managed to cut out a lot of the agonising in the book, which was definitely for the good.
One I like better than the book is Last of the Mohicans. Yes, it’s totally different. The book is waaaaaaayyyy drawn out. I was all excited when my American Lit teacher announced we’d be reading that book, since I loved the movie. And then I found out how different it was and was sorely disappointed. lol
I agree with you, @Grace. It was written on a romanticized, “noble savage” style. And @Kylie, I am glad to learn that Wonder has a good adaptation. I am looking forward to seeing the movie.
Sorry to be the village idiot & a complainer at the same time but I’m not sure what your acronym is meant to be so not real helpful to understand what you are saying.
Oddly enough, it’s both one of my favourite books and movies of all time, because they captured the quirkiness of the book perfectly – Going Postal (by Terry Pratchett). It’s so funny and beautiful and sad and all in all perfect.
Thanks so much @Selina! Totes gonna scoop that up ? I love Mitch Albom! Ever since Tuesday’s w/ Morrie I have read every book he writes, all are equally awesome!
Thanks! I just checked but that’s a novelization of the movie. The other way around. The movie was not based on a book. The movie came out first and then Max Allan Collins made it into a novel.
October sky. One of my favorite movies based on a book
I grew up very close to where the book/movie was based in. I am a coal miner’s daughter and grand daughter.
The Book Thief
Gone With the Wind. The book was a literary masterpiece, the movie a cinematic one! Both absolute CLASSICS.
Papillon movie was as good as the book. BUT I liked Jaws the movie better than the book.
The Princess Bride
The Great Gatsby
The Power of One
Actually preferred the movie to this book.
Harry potter series and twilight saga.
I’ve got to say Jurassic Park
❤️ The Godfather ❤️
The Joy Luck Club
Of mice and men. Went to see a taping of the live stage play. It was word for word from what I could remember. Best thing I’ve ever watched.

I used to walk to school….reading the whole way!! It really developed my peripheral vision!! ?
GWTW is both my favorite book and movie. I first saw the movie at the age of 9 read the book by the age of 11. It was a hard book to find and I didn’t live near a library and it wasn’t in my school library either.

To a 9 year old girl those dresses were to die for in the movie.
No I haven’t seen it I wonder if I could find it on Amazon. lol
I don’t know about Amazon, but I have seen half-hour infomercials selling the series!
I will check later. Right now I have housework to do. Would much rather be reading though.

The Princess Bride and The Joy Luck Club

The fault in our stars
Omg lol I knew I would know it..not that I’ve ever read or watched it
Looking back I have to say, the only movies I’ve enjoyed *just as much* as the book….were the ones I saw *before* reading the book!!?
Hmmm, “Lesson Before Dying” was almost word for word.
Definitely “The Outsiders”!
All the HPs ⚡️
Wonder, Murder on the orient express, p.s I love you, kite runner, Harry Potter
Five people you meet in heaven. Goes exactly how it was written
TFIOS, P.S I love you, the Perks of Being a Wallflower, and the remake of Flowers in the Attic
To Kill A Mockingbird
Pride and Prejudice, but ONLY the 1995 version. I don’t like to even think about the 2005 one.

Everything everything
The Hunger Games & The Book Thief
The movie I like better than the book: The Princess Bride.
One I like better than the book is Last of the Mohicans. Yes, it’s totally different. The book is waaaaaaayyyy drawn out. I was all excited when my American Lit teacher announced we’d be reading that book, since I loved the movie. And then I found out how different it was and was sorely disappointed. lol
I literally just watched Wonder and it was a great adaptation
LOVED that book!! Can’t wait to see the movie!
I agree with you, @Grace. It was written on a romanticized, “noble savage” style. And @Kylie, I am glad to learn that Wonder has a good adaptation. I am looking forward to seeing the movie.
You will not be disappointed and as I’m sure you know already, bring some Kleenex.
Memoirs of a Geisha definitley!
The Help
Definitely To Kill a Mockingbird.
Gregory Peck brought Atticus Finch to life!
Also agree with The Fault in Our Stars, they did a great job on the movie. I think it helped that John Green was there very step of the way.
I also felt that Girl, Interrupted was very well done and liked that movie.
I think that Gone, Girl did a good job too.
I hadn’t even thought about Girl, Interrupted. I agree with you on that movie adaptation.
The book Thief & Before I Fall
the green mile
Wonder, hands down!
The Secret Life of Bees
Sorry to be the village idiot & a complainer at the same time but I’m not sure what your acronym is meant to be so not real helpful to understand what you are saying.

@Sihl , the movie sstoryline was a little different from the book, but I enjoyed them both. You should try the book.

Please do, they are both amazing 🙂 <3
