My nine year old still loves for me to read to her. She reads chapter books on her own, but before bed she wants me to read her a Berenstein Bears book.
I don’t have kids but when I was little my favorite book was “The Animals of Farmer Jones”. My parents replaced it because the first one wore out. Then my mother got tired of reading it (She was reading it 8 or 9 times a day) so she hid it and brought different animal books. Well, when she adopted my youngest brother I found a copy of the book. Tate is now 2 and it’s his favorite book. I laugh every time he wants Mom to read it. Lol
My kids say: The Book with No Pictures; any Elephant and Piggie Books; Rhyme Crime, Good Dog; Good Night Good Night Construction Site; Cat Knit; The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors.
Fish out of water is the recent hit around here. Funny because this story was one of my parents books. A boy feeds his fish too much and it won’t stop growing.
Our 4 year old granddaughter can not get enough of Mama Loves by Suess. She also loves my 1000 page art history book. Our 7 year old hasn’t found a favorite but always chooses chapter books with animals on the cover.
Short reads or chapter books?
Both 😉

Spoon. I forget the author. Cute way to show difference shouldn’t matter.
