Basically he went round the houses looking for something only to realise it was there where he started . End of story
Don’t bother if you haven’t yet !

This is the whole point of his story,
People go round miles looking for
Some meaning in their lives, to find
It was at home all the time !!

1
Eleanor

It takes some folk a lifetime to realise this, the grass isn’t always greener 🙂

3
Ilana

@Elizabeth yes so true but most of us learn the lesson the hard way !

I found it entertaining as a novel. Simple, easy to read.
I think a lot of the hype sorrounding him/his philosophy detracts from jis books. I don’t see them as anything with deep hidden moral lessons. They’re just books.

My goodreads review from last year: I know that everyone loves this book. People told me it was ridiculous that I hadn’t read it yet. So I read it. I’m not that impressed. Parts of the story were interesting but the whole thing was so heavy handed with the morals and messages, which detracted from getting lost in the story. The story was never allowed to speak for itself, its lessons and teachings were explictly stated, which I found irritating and sort of condescending. In addition there WAS a non explicitly stated message, that men are to chase their dreams and they can expect their women to wait patiently because women’s only dreams ARE their men. Disturbing.

Welcome home, Becca – much like Elaine in Seinfeld when she had to pretend to like The English Patient- it’s lonely out there when people think you’re bonkers not to like a specific book …. and here most of us seem to truly have strong feelings against it. ??❤️

Trash literature. I am from Brazil. Please, read Rubem Fonseca, instead. He was also translated. Or Graciliano Ramos or Jorge amado. Or Clarice Lispector. My suggestions. ?
