The thing is everything we see about a book is a kind of review. Blurbs are paid ones, recommendations unpaid, but they’re all saying read this/don’t read this because reasons.
I usually do. I‘m pretty good at interpreting them, finding people who think similarly to myself. It‘s the same with hotel reviews: there‘s people who give a place a low rating, but if you see their reasons, you realize they focus on different stuff than you do. Same with books. ? When being interested in a book, I read a few reviews on goodreads and/or Amazon (by people who seem to have a similar taste to mine). When in an bookshop, I sometimes just buy a book because I like the cover or title.
No…not so much. Too many give too much away, I like to go into a book blind. Besides, opinions being like buttholes, everybody has one and all that…lol…just because a review is good or bad is no reflection on whether or not I will like it. I’m much more likely to read a book or not based on the recommendation of some reading buddies, because they really know what I like/dislike, and we have similar tastes.
Lately, yes. I have started reading reviews, why not, it only takes a couple minutes, and improves the chance the book will be a good read. But I’ll still read the first few pages of the book to get a feel for the writer’s style. That speaks volumes.
I do sometimes, but usually it ruins my outlook. I wanna go in with no preconceived ideas or judgement. If I’m really loyal to the book, I don’t care what anyone says, but if I’m on the fence about it, I can be easily swayed. I’ve actually stopped reading a book a couple times because of reviews leading me to think it would be a waste of time. I could have missed out on something good, just because I listened to a stranger complaining about the book.
If the book was written by an author that I don’t recognize, yes. Some are just so good, I don’t even read the description inside the cover or on the back of the book.
Sometimes. As long as they are labeled non-spoiler. I have a handful of reviewers I trust because we have similar reading tastes. Most of the time I’ll try the book myself to see but other times if I’m leaning towards uninterested I’ll just focus my time on a different book.
I really only look at the overall star rating, but I’ve found a couple of reviewers on Goodreads that are always spot on with how I feel. So if they liked it, I know I will.
I do if I am looking at books online, just ti see how many people enjoyed or not, sometimes I will if I am unsure if I want to get a book and read it, but if a book catches my attention and I get excited to read a book from what it says on the blurb then I don’t.
Only when selecting one for book club that I haven’t read yet, or when choosing to actually purchase a book at full price (as opposed to getting from the library or getting it super cheap at a thrift store or library clearance event).
Oh also for the Kindle First books. I read reviews for those to help me decide because I’m indecisive and you only get one book out of the lot, so I feel like I should be picky. LOL
I check out Goodreads sometimes to see the overall rating or ratings from those I follow. I don’t let that make the decision but I take it into account.
No & never will. I seen people do that. How can you review a book you haven’t read. Even if you heard things about it? I read it & from my own opinion.
Nope I want to make my own opinion about it
No..which could be the reason why the selection of authors I read from is restricted..hehe
Nope
Yes-and it has led me astray more than once.
I look through them to make sure there’s nothing severely wrong with the book, but that’s about it.
Sometimes.
Before no but now yes
Always
I look but I never let me not read a book xx
Sometimes before buying a book
Sometimes but in general no
No. I like discussing after, but I don’t care about most people’s opinions. Especially concerning books.
I read reviews from people I know and whose opinions I respect, but not critics.
Depends but they don’t necessarily sway me. We all have different taste.
I will if they’re expensive. I don’t want to spend $15 on a book and then hate it
I do. Doesn’t matter if the review is negative or positive though, my decision to read the book doesn’t hinge on that.
Sometimes. Depends on the book. I’m more likely to pay attention to reviews if non-fiction.
The thing is everything we see about a book is a kind of review. Blurbs are paid ones, recommendations unpaid, but they’re all saying read this/don’t read this because reasons.
Definitely

Yes.
If I am on the fence about a book I will read them.
No…I would rather read a bit of the book itself before buying.
No
no I do not. Reviewer opinion are not mine
No
Once in a while, but regardless of the review, if I was going to get the book, I still get it.
Not usually.

Usually not
I take a look at the general consensus (how many stars) but I don’t read reviews usually
No
Not usually. I’ll test read after reading the synopsis, and then go from there.
Yes
Yes, I’m a sucker for reviews. I do my research on the book before reading it.
Always!
Yes
No. Just because someone else doesn’t like or LOVE a book doesn’t mean I will so I just read and decide for myself.
Lately, yes. I have started reading reviews, why not, it only takes a couple minutes, and improves the chance the book will be a good read. But I’ll still read the first few pages of the book to get a feel for the writer’s style. That speaks volumes.
No I just look at star ratings. If a book is 3.5 or less I usually choose against it.
I do sometimes it depends on the book
No
I try not to read actual reviews. I do usually read “the back of the book” which is the synopsis on Goodreads
No
No, everyone’s opinion is different.
I do…but if I still find it interesting I give it a shot and see for myself
I prefer going into books I don’t know anything about. WIth that I cna create my own opinion on it
No
I do sometimes, but usually it ruins my outlook. I wanna go in with no preconceived ideas or judgement. No I do not.
This is hardly scientific, but I choose a lot of books from the jacket cover.
If the book was written by an author that I don’t recognize, yes. Some are just so good, I don’t even read the description inside the cover or on the back of the book.
I don’t read reviews per-say.. but I watch a lot of booktube, which of course is going to have them.. If 9/10 say it’s good, I’ll give it a try.
Hardly ever!
Yea I do to see if the book or series worth reading
Yes
I read Goodreads reviews
Sometimes
I check the score on good reads
I don’t. Sometimes I will read two or three just out of curiosity, but I find that they’re usually negative so I stop lol
I read the ending
I don’t read reviews.
Nope!
No
Nope
Never.
Nope. Because everyone has different opinions. I’d rather read and judge for myself
Always but I don’t always listen
no
I seldomly do: they often tell more about the book than I want to know beforehand and, most important… everyone has a different opinion.
No
Yes. I like booktube reviews
I used to, but not really anymore.
No!
Nope. Never.
no i like to make up my own mind
Yes – reviews are the life blood of an author. With so much rubbish out there I always read reviews. https://www.amazon.co.uk/House-Called-Mbabati-novel-Africa/dp/1533445397
i do read reviews first because then i know to buy or not to buy the book xD
Sometimes.

I don’t read the reviews but when someone posts about it without me asking then I do
No
No
Some times
I don’t. I read the first 2 pages and go from there.
No I read them after finishing the book
sometimes
It depends!
Yeah I generally do
Yes I do but sometimes
No
I don’t too.
I kinda look just to see, but if I’m sold on a book it doesn’t matter
I look on Amazon to read what the story line is, more so than the reviews.

No way. I don’t care what others have to say about the book.
Always. I read all the reviews on Amazon. If it has 3 or less stars I avoid it. 4 stars I think about it greatly.
