It’s excellent. Hard to read, especially if you have young children, though.

I loved this book! Read it with my book club and we had a great discussion. It’s not an easy read though just because of the subject matter.

I read it a long time ago but I really liked it. The concept of the story is disturbing but the way it’s written is wonderful

I couldn’t get into it. I think it was because of the child talking and the terms that he used kept it from flowing for me

I couldn’t get passed the first few chapters. The way the child talked bugged me. I have heard it’s good. Maybe one day I will pick it up again.

Its not an easy read, dont give up too early, the narrator is a wee boy and it takes time to relax into the style of the language. Once you are over that hurdle it is a wonderful book, fast paced and intriguing and very sad

I loved it so much! It seems a bit .. odd .. to start, with how the boy speaks, but that comes to make sense and it’s a great book

I couldn’t get into it really. But then her earlier book Slammerkin is one of my favourites and I think I was judging it on that – two completely different scenarios.

I loved it but it can take a few pages to get use to the young boys dialect.

if you can get over the child’s voice which nearly made me give up on the book it is a good read. Personally i found the ending a bit trite but overall worthwhile.

Really enjoyed they way the author used capital letters for the items in the Room, all the really important things of their lives. The second half less so, actually thought the film better for the second half!

I couldn’t get into it, but it may’ve been me. Sometimes a book is good or bad to the reader based upon where she is in her life when reading. I may give it another try.

Like some others here, I didn’t like the child narrator’s voice, it didn’t ring true to me. For that reason, I didn’t enjoy the book. The storyline is original and it’s readable. But I can’t exactly recommend it for everyone. That said, most people like this book. I read Frog Music by the same author and didn’t like it at all.

If you are an immersive reader you’ll love it. The child names things by their name…i.e. the room is called Room,i found the child’s lack of imagination striking and sad, couldn’t even think of names because they hadn’t read books, been around people, definitely made me feel sad and fortunate. Enjoy your book. Xx

I don’t usually like a book from a child’s perspective. But this was an exception. Haunting story line. Great read.

Make sure you arrange for your children to stay at a relatives before reading so you don’t hug them so hard you cause injury!

Loved the first half, but hated the second half. I was more interested in the mother’s story then the child’s, but once the POV changes….ugggg….
