I do too. You’re not alone. I’ve been known to not pick up the book if I find the cover to be tacky or I’ve picked up books just because the cover is fantastic. Not always the case but have definitely done that.
Me too. Usually its the romance books where the man has his shirt off, really ripped bod and the female specimen is either dying in his arms wearing her poofy dress all wrong on purpose or starring into his eyes in search of something, anything.
I am going to sound snotty, but I love a book with the original cover. If they turn it into a movie and create a new cover with the star on it, I immediately walk on by.
@Terri True. But on the Paperwhite it’s not in color, so you can’t see the cover as well when it’s in black and white. I was being sarcastic, anyway! ?
So not alone – I was put off from even trying Grace and Fury in the original cover. I got an alternate cover through a book box (Owlcrate) and I’m so much more open to reading it now.

Ditto
I do it all the time ?

I remember so many hahaha

Guilty as charged!
Its natural ?
Me too. I hate books with red and orange colour covers and i don’t know why
Or by it’s title, lol!
@Erin which is why I won’t read Little Women…
The cover is what initially draws me in and then I read the jacket to decide.
Can’t really do that if you’re reading on a Kindle Paperwhite. Lol!
@Karen Of course you can. You can see the cover on its webpage. And you see it when you’re choosing which title to read next.

First thing I do upon downloading a book on my Paperwhite is go to the cover. ?

Me too! A nice cover is… sexy ?
Romances are easy to spot and i stay away from those as if they were poison ivy
Me too. I have no use for bodice rippers and happy happy love love formulaic books.
I saw this wonderful cover last week
Of course you do. Most people do. It’s why so much time and effort is spent on the images of a published book.
Yes I have bought books just because I liked the cover
I have, too. I have also skipped over books if the cover turns me off.
Me too
Covers have gotten so creative, unless it is from the movie.
Me too. I won’t buy a book with a movie poster on it.
I’m a sucker for a beautiful cover and especially for a good title.
Not often but when I do it has to have really hot girls on the cover. ?
The cover will attract my attention.
Srsly tho, if I feel like if I don’t dig the cover, I also won’t like the content.
Nah….its what’s inside.
I bought Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie solely for its hardcover cover, and what a good decision that was!
(and I also choose wine based on the label) ??
Is there another way? I don’t know one single solitary thing about wines!
Eleanor and Natalie- read this: https://www.amazon.com/Wine-101-Informative-Introduction-Wonderful/dp/0985311827/ref=mp_s_a_1_12/142-7715769-8964002?ie=UTF8&qid=1543863785&sr=8-12&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=wine+folly+essential+guide+to+wine. ?
@Robbie a wine book! Thank you for the recommendation!
You’re welcome. And just as a personal preference, try Estancia, red or white. Yikes-hope I haven’t started another debate!!
I do too! An interesting cover can draw me in. An unappealing one and I might pass. Call me shallow. ?
This is the only book I recall choosing because of its cover. It turned out to be quite a good non-fiction book. https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/soap-opera–the-inside-story-of-procter–gamble_alecia-swasy/841081/?mkwid=sFM5qtcnV%7Cdc&pcrid=70112878392&pkw=&pmt=&plc=&pgrid=21323665512&ptaid=aud-465071891222%3Apla-292616666786&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIia7nyI2E3wIVA4bICh0qEwzGEAQYASABEgLk1vD_BwE#isbn=0812920600&idiq=3170087
Some of the best books I’ve read were because of the cover like:
That is a great book!
ME TOO! I am sooooo guilty of this! That is why I like this group. I give other books a chance too!
Because they are beautiful,!!!!
Me too !
Actually, I often judge books by their covers.
