So I’m thinking about getting a Kindle. If you have one what’s your opinion on it and how often do you use it?

I love mine. Use it almost every day ?
I love mine, use them every day! I have a fire and fire HD, for the price difference I’d say just get a fire.
I love mine too
I rarely read anything else now.
It’s light, convenient, many books are considerably cheaper, loads of free stuff too.
I have the paper white.
Best investment I made ?
Paperwhite. All the time. Esp at night or while traveling
I just got my daughter one so we’re still figuring it out but I use the Kindle app on my phone constantly
I didn’t think I would, but I love it. My eyesight is not so great, so a kindle is easier to read. Also, I can carry hundreds of books with me at all times and add more anywhere there is WiFi available. I use mine every day!
I like my kindle. But I still purchase actual books. I get books on my kindle I don’t want people know I’m reading. Like the magicians. Or young adult books. Lol
Love my kindle paper white. I can read at night without disturbed no my husband!
Still buy some real books too, mainly when they’re cheaper than the kindle edition or from secondhand book shops.
I love paper books, but I also love my Kindle. No matter where I’m going, I always have my Kindle and at least one paper book with me, and I read my Kindle books on my computer as well.
Never without mine. So easy to carry around and also has back light for night time reading. Also if you join Book Hippo you get daily emails and books are 99p and audible books are far less if you have the book on kindle.
Also http://bookbub.com/
I use bookbub all the time
Bookbub is the best!!!
Also…love both my kindles ?
I like mine, even those I love the feel of a real book. I love the smell of old books and new books, but the kindle comes in handy. You press a button and there’s a book!
And… you can borrow books on your kindle from the library too!
And you can take 500 (or more!) virtual books on vacation! No space taken up in your suitcase with books.
I love mine! I use it all the time! I used it in college for classic books we had to read because most of them were free. I have hundreds of books on it and it’s easy to carry around with me. I highly recommend it. Don’t get me wrong, I still have hard copies of all my favorites but the Kindle is so convenient
Paperwhite. It’s not a tablet. It’s for reading and it’s perfect ?
I love my kindle fire HD
I love it and use it several times a day. Its awesome to take places if you have to wait and can hold many many books.
I love mine! I have a Fire and a Paperwhite. I use the Paperwhite every day and the Fire a couple times a week
I love mine. I’ve had one for about 5 years. Actually got a new one for Christmas. The one issue to keep in mind is to make sure you have enough memory to carry multiple books at once. The last one I had auto updated and installed Alexa and took all my storage so I was pretty much forced to get a new one. Otherwise I really like it.
I used mine a lot for the first year I had it, but I’ve been back to books for a long time. I like books better!
Have a kindle fire to play games on. Fave is my paper white. Light, no glare from anything, lit up screen. Love it
I’ve had a Kindle for at least 4 years, and I use it at least 2 or 3 times a day. I have 830 books (just checked) and have read at least 300 of them. I go to Amazon 2 or 3 times a week and download a bunch of $.99 or free books each time, but I only read 1 or 2 of them a week. But I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have my Kindle.
I have a Kindle Fire and I use it almost everyday. I also read paper and hard covers books too. Love my kindle. I buy books from Amazon and buy a bunch for $.99.
I use my kindle all the time. It’s great for on the go, traveling, and reading in bed. I read the occasional paper book here and there when the spirit moves me but I do most of my reading on kindle now. I’m also more likely to use kindle for books I’m less sure I’ll like since the ebook is usually cheaper. So kindle has really broadened my horizons and gotten me to read books I ordinarily wouldn’t have gambled on.
I got a Kindle Paperwhite for Xmas. My plan is to take it out with me and reduce the risk of creases in my real books. I’m disappointed in the battery life though. They claim 28 hours but mine was flat within three days. Bearing in mind that that included Xmas day and Boxing Day so maybe an hour or two of reading on each of those days. I was hoping to use it when I travel overseas next year but at that rate it won’t get me through the first leg of the first flight ?
That doesn’t sound right at all. I read for hours a day and charge my paperwhite like once a month. Maybe if you try turning wifi off? You only need it when you’re downloading books and leaving it on I think drains the battery faster.
If that doesn’t make a huge difference I’d contact customer service. It should not be draining so fast.
@Jill I did have wifi on but turned it off after I recharged it. Used it for a couple of hours this morning and they battery symbol has already dropped down from full.
I press the power button to put the screen saver on when I stop reading for a short time and then turn the screen off when I stop for a longer length of time.
Agree with Jill. You should contact customer service because what you are saying doesn’t seem right. They might be able to help you figure out if it’s an issue with the kindle or if there is something that is on that shouldn’t be etc.
I’ve read more than 12 hours the last couple days and my battery is still showing more than half full. And I let mine sit open while I get distracted all the time. I’d definitely message amazon and see if they can sort it out for you.
@Jenna yes I may have to. I hope that it is okay because it was a Xmas present and they don’t have the receipt.
Yep because I have a fire and can leave it on Standby which does drain power, just slowly, and even after about 3-5 days it still has some power. The Paperwhite is supposed to last longer and even if you are leaving it on standby it shouldn’t be draining that fast.
Did they get it from Amazon? I know some people can get them in stores as well.
Jenna Rodriguez no, they bought it before Amazon came to Australia.
Amazon should still walk you through things to determine if there is something wrong with it. I believe I had a friend who had a similar issue and was able to contact them.
@Jenna I will give that a try if it continues to drain just as much with the wifi off.
Hi @Clare, I think it sounds like it could be that there was only a small amount of charge in it when you first used it, and the device is now only charging up to that level instead of being fully charged? You might be able to get longer battery life if you let it run out of charge so that it goes completely flat and then charge it up overnight. You may have to do this a few times to get it to be fully charged. I get at least a week out of mine – but I do turn it right off rather than using the screen saver. Hope you can get it sorted, happy reading!
@Clare keep the kindle on airplane mode when not downloading and brightness low. I keep mine that way & it lasts almost a week. If your having issues contact ask on and see if they’ll send you a new one.
@Jo Hi Jo, it was flat when I got it, I charged it until the light went green and the battery symbol showed full.
I would get in touch with the their customer service dept see what they say, in meantime try leaving it on charge overnight anyway – ice always found the Amazon customer service people to be very efficient. It must be annoying though, best of luck x
@Jo I chatted with Amazon tech support and it looks like my software was out of date. I’ve just updated it and am charging her up so hopefully that fixes the problem.
I also got a Paperwhite over the holidays, I love that I can read in the dark without the harsh tablet light. I was surprised to find (unlike previous models) it does not support audiobooks. But so far thats the only drawback.
I have the cheap regular kindle. I love it.
I have one. The only reason I bought it was because I was going overseas for a year to work. I came back in 2015 and have barely used it since. I still have it for when I go travelling, but while I’m at home, I still prefer paper books.
I have a Kindle Fire since 2012. Love it
I have a kindle fire and i was gifted a kindle paperwhite for Christmas. I love them both. The paperwhite is easier on the eyes. You can turn off the back light completely when it’s not needed.
I have the Paper-white Kindle and I love it! I don’t get people who think you have to either love books or e-readers as if you can’t have both. E-readers are excellent for traveling, you can easily read the screen in bright sunlight, you don’t need to have a light on to read it in the dark (perfect for reading in bed without disturbing your partner) and it holds an entire library worth of books – what’s not to love?
EDIT The screen is better for your eyes than the blue light of smart phone and tablet screens which can interfere with your sleep – which is another plus point.
I had someone once tell me I wasnt a real book lover or reader because I read in my kindle but the truth is I read faster especially those big 500 page books
Judgemental people like that probably only hate e-readers because they can’t see what other people are reading ha!
@Jo lol yeah that’s true. That’s why I ask once a week what people are reading or I stalk them on goodreads lol… I just think it’s sad that people think those who use kindles are below them. Every book I’ve read I gor a hard copy of unless I didnt like it then I dont buy the hard copy.
I have a kindle fire and love it! There are a lot of nice models of kindle, but the fire is nice and cheap.
I have a Kindle Fire and j vs it. I use it as a tablet. You can do just about anyone thing with it. I also have a Kindle Paperwhite that I use strictly for reading and I love that too. You can’t go wrong.
I have a kindle paperwhite, I use it all the time! I love my kindle. I read faster on it in my opinion. I keep it on airplane mode when not downloading books, and I keep my brightness low & my battery lasts forever. I really do enjoy my kindle. I can keep a lot of books on it and its light weight so it fits easily in my purse and isn’t bulky at all.
I feel like I read faster on my Kindle, too.
I am already halfway through the book I’m reading & it’s because I cant cheat and go to the end because my kindle makes me not want to peek.
@Christle I like it because I can read a 600 page book and it doesn’t seem as intimidating
@Alexandria Exactly! This one book I really want looks daunting if I see a paper copy of it, but in ebook form, it doesn’t seem so bad. (Still gonna get a paper one, though, because if I’m reading a nonfiction book with maps, it’s easier to flip to them in a paper book.)
@Christle the final two books in the vampire academy are HUGE & so are the final two for the cinder trilogy. They don’t seem as daunting on my kindle. I feel like ill breeze through them
@Alexandria The VA books are great ?
@Christle I am halfway through the first one. It’s good so far! I am enjoying it.
I was thinking it would be like twilight which I hated but it’s seeming to be better than that, almost like mortal instruments
@Alexandria I love Twilight, but yeah, it’s definitely more like Mortal Instruments to me
If you haven’t seen the VA movie yet, definitely don’t watch it until you finish the book you’re on. It doesn’t spoil anything but the first book.
@Christle my sister says it was a pretty bad movie. She’s read the VA books at least three times && she recommended them to me
@Alexandria I honestly love the movie, just because it was fun
And I usually can’t help comparing movies to the books they were adapted from, but with this one, I didn’t think about it at all.
@Christle I may check it out! I am hooked on the book so far & my sister is giving me other series to read afterwards.
I love my Kindle Fire
I would suggest getting in strictly for reading.
I love my Kindle Paperwhite
I have a Kindle, but I’m just hooked on handling a book. Most I know who have Kindles love them.
I got mine for Christmas and I already love it lol
I like mine. I admit, I didn’t think I would (and I still prefer paper books) but it makes access to books a lot easier and cheaper.
I love it! All the books you want at your fingertips (for a price). ?
I use my kindle pretty often. =D I’m subscribed to a couple of pages that notify me of good deals and have picked up some really good books for really cheap -it’s paid for itself and I travel a lot!
I’m planning to get rid of my Nook, though. Harder to use online and I’m unhappy with the company overall.
I love my Kindle. I used to have a Nook, a long time ago, and wasn’t happy with it.
I’ve had one for years!!!! Absolutely love it!!!!
I really feel a kindle is very useful. Carrying it is easy. You have more than one book to access without the weight. I have the paper white which has the background light so I can read without putting the lights on and the best thing is that whenever I see any book that all of you have read I can immediately download the sample and buy it right away without having to go anywhere. So it’s great?
I have paper white and it’s much better for my eyes than my kindle app on my phone. One thing I don’t like is that it’s slow to sync with other devices when I read a book somewhere else. Other than that it’s a great one
I have had a kindle for about seven or eight years. I use it for reading only. I love it for all of the reasons that others have given and I have found it invaluable for holidays and several trips to hospital. Their samples give me a good idea of writing style before I buy the book. Don’t be talked into an alternative. I had a Sony Reader and it was hopeless.
Ive had mine for about 7 years now and use it daily! I feel naked when im without it
I use my kindle paperwhite constantly. I love being able to borrow books at any moment. It’s lightweight and easy to use.
I have mine since December 2012 and never looked back. Still read paperbacks but absolutely love my kindle. Am using it daily and it’s my favorite for traveling!
All I have to say is if you want a kindle for reading, dont get a Fire. It’s basically a tablet, while the other options are e-readers which don’t have screen glare and look like an actual book. I love my paperwhite!
I agree
I have a Kindle DX. It’s great, big screen. My only concern is that if you’re not in the states, using Kindle can be a bit pesky (esp in Canada), where the overdrive system uses .ePub and Kindles use .azw3 or .mobi files
Kindle is in Canada too
Yes though kobo is the main brand here
I like kobo more but use both
I use a Kindle, had it for about 7 years and it’s great. Will be trading it up to a kindle paperwhite as my eyesight is finding it difficult to see print while reading in bed at night. I live Downunder.
Kindle paperwhite. I use it everyday as my eyes are terrible.
I was really skeptical and unsure about using a Kindle, was! Kindle has its own perks like getting titles at a relatively lesser price, reading in all kind of light, easy to carry, can be held by one hand and most importantly it can store a huge number of books! But you would definitely miss the smell and the physical touch of the book!
Oh, and you can check out ebooks from your library on Overdrive without having to go anywhere! And they automatically return which is awesome
I have a kindle voyage and I absolutely love it!
Don’t use them and don’t really know how to use them
Great and cheap on Amazon. My husband got an Amazon Fire and he loves everything about it. He can look anything he wants and is interested in up on google. Watch drag races, listen to all music. Read book that can be purchased very cheap from Kindle. He wanted nothing to do with technology except his DVR on the TV but now he loves his little computer in so many ways. Go for it. You can still read you books even if the powere goes out like our did tonight. Keep it charged. Just no internet.without power but who needs it if you can read by light in the Kindle.
Reading is heaven. Even cookbooks. So much cheaper on the kindle version. For any book.library is cheaper to borrow from on your kindle ? But you have to give them back. Lol. I have favorites I want to keep. Everyone is different.
Can’t live without my kindle.
I don’t hv separate ereader
I read ..using my smartphone (android – samsung note4) using app – moon reader
I did too but found reading on my phone made my vision blurry for a LONG TIME. I actually didn’t realize it was my phone until I went to the doctor and he couldn’t figure out what it was either. I tested it by reading only printed books for a few weeks then back to my phone. No blurriness while reading the books, blurry like heck after reading on my phone. The Kindle is the best of both worlds.
I love my Kindle I use it so much more than ‘real’ books, it’s just easier, it’s lighter, I can read in bed (backlight) I can carry hundreds of books instead of one, cheaper books, daily sales and freebies, adjustable font and screen brightness, so many great things ?
I love my kindle! X I don’t use it a lot but it’s fabulous when I do. The storage on my Kindle Fire is really good too, the only problem would be that you can’t use it outside (sun glare) but I don’t read outside anyway. I don’t like the paperwhite as it’s quite small and dark.
The books you can buy are mostly cheaper and you can get freebies too
That’s one of the reasons I love my paperwhite… Anti glare screen ?
I don’t like the paperwhite? It’s quite dark and I don’t like the way the page turns x
Fair play I find its really good and the screen can turn insanely bright
Yeah, you can adjust the brightness of the paperwhite. I just don’t like reading on tablets or phones because it’s looking at a screen for hours, versus an ereader which looks like a paper book and it’s not an actual screen.
Plus, since it’s an ereader specifically for reading, the change lasts weeks even using it for hours a day!
I love my Kindle. Wasn’t sure at first but use it all the time. I switch from Kindle to paperback often. Get good deals on all kinds of books and its so light and easy to carry around.
I love mine and use it all the time!
I have had about a dozen different versions of the kindle, since they were created and I absolutely LOVE every one I use.
I don’t use a Kindle, sorry. But I do use a free e-reader app on my phone. It’s called Moon+ Reader and I paid $5 to remove ads. Never really checked on the differences as I am still satisfied with my e-reader app haha. It can read a lot of file formats, even comic books. I made the text size a wee bit larger and the spacing between lines a little bit wider as well. I made the pages look like old book pages and turn page animation like flipping a real page. I use night mode at night when I read in bed and use a bluelight filter to lessen the glare from the screen. I can highlight, bookmark, copy quotes, highlight words and directly open em in my dictionary, it has text to speech, it reminds me to rest my eyes after an hour of reading, it’s fullscreen and notifications don’t get to bother me,etc. So yeah pretty happy with it and only paid $5.
I love it and use it every day
I have a Kindle Paperwhite, and I love it. Last week, I had to read an old-fashioned book, and I wasn’t able to adjust the font size or the back light – very annoying ^^. You get spoiled like that, owning a Paperwhite.
I love my paperweight. I was undecided at first whether to get one but took the plunge and I love it. It’s so easy to carry in my bag whereever I go
I not long got it was a Christmas present and love it wouldn’t be without out
I got a KOBO because it supported more file formats. I love it, wouldn’t be without it. I use it daily.
Best thing ever invented for readers (well, after reading glasses ?.) Use mine all the time.
Have a few hard back books that i got for Christmas and all I can think is how hard it is holding it and it’s not comfortable at all. Wish I had it on the kindle lol
I’m going through that now with the hard cover of Dune. ?
Am loving Origin but makes me hands ache
I find I’m not reading as voraciously as I normally would because of the size and weight of this book. I hate that.
I have one and I actually love it. It’s not heavy to carry around, I can read easily anywhere since I always have it in my bag. I no more worry about taking two books in case I finished the one I’m reading. I also send all the important e-documents I have there, so I have them all the time as well. My favorite part is that when I’m traveling, I can still read my books even during night trips. I wouldn’t compare it to reading in actual books but each have its own charm I’d say. I still buy paper books for the joy of turning pages + I LOVE the smell.
Love it. Have it with me nearly all the time.
I go back and forth between real books and my Kindle. If I have money and it’s available, for most books I prefer the real book (especially cookbooks). There are several books I have bought the Kindle version, read it, and then bought the print version. I like being able to borrow from the many locations that you can get free books for the Kindle, not to mention the 100s that are free.
I love my kindle fire for travel because I can have 100’s of books with me but I read actual books more. I use my kindle daily though.
Love it.
I got a paperwhite a couple years ago. I quite like it, but I don’t use it exclusively. It’s very helpful to have, and does occasionally save me some book money – and shelf space which is at a premium at my house.
I love kindle fire. I use mine daily.
I have a paperwhite and use it everyday. I have mostly classics on it (Dickens to Tolstoy) but I use it at work on breaks. I read book books at home.
I just got one for Christmas from the hubby… and so far I’m loving it! I’m still a lover of books (actual copies) but I think having a Kindle as a backup and such will change my reading game.
I have a Paperwhite and love it. But, with that said, I still read physical books more If you utilize your library system, most in the US offer eBook loans as well. I love borrowing Kindle books, and then if I love them, I buy the physical copy. It has saved me loads and loads of money and found terrific books I’d never have tried.
Love it!!!
Love it
I use mine all the time. I have about 3000 books on mine and in the cloud.
Definitely get one, if you’re gonna use it a lot or maybe sometimes not so often. It doesn’t really matter. But what matters for me, is, that everything I feel like reading a book in English (which is not my first language and it’s like, all the time), my kindle is waiting for me and voila.
I love it and I’m reading 5 times more, that I used to.
I love my Kindle–I read books, watch Netflix & Hulu, play games and go online with it. Re: the books–I honestly go back and forth. I download books to the Kindle but if I see a good paperback I’ll purchase a paperback. I say it’s the best of both worlds.
I’m using it everyday
love it
I have a few e-readers. A Sony one was my first one, then I got a Nook and also I have a Kindle paperwhite and a regular Kindle. The paperwhite is registered in my friends name so I can’t add it to that’s why I got the other one. I only use the paperwhite the most. Well until recently now I’ve started using my Nook as well. I do love the benefits of an e-reader but I do tend to buy physical books more often.
Love, love, love!!!!
Love it and all the time!!
I use mine everyday!
I don’t have a kindle.. I have a kobo. It’s probably my 3/4 one now ?. I read everyday and I love it. One of the things I love about my kobo is that there’s books on there that I wouldn’t be able to get in the shops.
Even though I have a kobo, my opinion would be if you’re really after a kindle, get it. If you’re always reading, get it. Also it takes up less room in your bag when you go out ?
Kindle or kobo matters not. Just enjoy reading however you can.
I love my Kindle.
My kindle is the exact reason I finished a book in 4 days instead of 7
I use a Kobo Glo. I love it, so reliable
I love it! Most days.
All the time on my phone lol along with real books… usually reading two or three at a time anyway lol
I just use my phone, but I’m cheap.
I use it most days … So that i can read 2 to3 books at a time and i love it
