So I started reading Bossypants by Tina Fey. I haven’t laughed a whole lot and I’m about 25% in. Keep going or ditch it?

I really enjoyed this book. She is one of my favorite comedian/writers.
I tried reading it and gave up.
I didn’t really think it was that funny.
I gave up too.
I bought it when it first came out. (paid waaaaaaay to much) I was so looking forward to it and expected it to be amazing and it just wasn’t
Glad I got it from the library but like you I was expecting to laugh throughout. That didn’t happen except in the beginning.
I gave up also
Keep going. It was an enjoyable read
I really liked it. That being said, I’m more of an Amy Poehler fan and liked her book better!
I’m a big fan of the audiobook on this one. Hearing her read it made me cry laughing!
I gave up, wasn’t my thing.
The audio book is better
I gave up
I really liked it on audio because she reads it
Audio book is definitely better.
I gave up on this one, too. A good friend loved it, though.
Keep going!
Put it down. Read her friend Amy Poehler’s book, “Yes Please!”
I liked that one better, too! Plus, the physical book was gorgeous!
I liked it
I got bored with it
It made a great audio book for me. She’s a good story teller & made chores more fun.
It was very self-indulgent, I thought. More of a “look how awesome I am” book than a “let me tell you about my experiences and people I’ve known” book.
You explained it better than I could have..exactly this!
Yes I picked up on that too!
It’s not meant to be a comedy – it’s a memoir.
I enjoyed it
I ditched it midway.
Not really a lol book, but entertaining
I didn’t love it. Mindy Kaling’s first book was much funnier, IMO.
I had a hard time getting through it too. I realized I like the audiobooks for times like these because you actually hear the authors feelings.
Keep going ??
I actually didn’t love it, either. I ditched it ?♀️
Silver Silvermans book “bedwetter” was laugh out loud hilarious, but I enjoyed Tina Fey too!
It doesn’t get better.
I loved it but it may just not be your thing. Of course I listened to it so maybe that helped.
Keep going (and the audiobook is wonderful)
Just ok
I enjoyed it…keep going!
I thought it was overrated.
I didn’t find it funny either AND I listened to the audio as many have suggested. David Sedaris is my go to for laughs.
One of his just became available at the library so I’m looking forward to it. I put the Tina Fey away and am reading Shit my Dad Says by Jeremy halpern. His dad reminds me of Eugene Levy as the dad in American Pie lol
If you struggled to read the book I would encourage you to listen to the audiobook. It’s not supposed to be an lol book just a book about her making her way into showbiz
I have to say I loved the part where she talked about SNL and her dad but that was about it.
Another vanity piece by a celebrity… not worth the time. My opinion, of course.
Linda is that based on having read it? Do you consider all memoirs to be vanity pieces?
@Erina , read it… liked her but, felt as if it was self serving. Again, my opinion of course.
@Linda of course, I was just curious. Thank you
It’s just ok.
Tina narrates the Audiobook- It is really a good listen!
I liked it but probably because I love her.
Keep going! It’s not a skit, so if you’re only in it for the laughs, forget it. If your in it for a good story by someone who can laugh at themselves- stick with it.
Get the audiobook!!!!!
I ditched it. It came across a bit narcissistic and not really funny.
I ditched it.
Me too
I read the same amount and quit. It just wasn’t holding my interest.
LOVED! Listened to audio and was dying laughing. From the beginning. So maybe ditch if it’s not your style of humor!
I liked it
I wasn’t impressed
I listened to it, Tina Fey read it. I loved it…
Listen to audiobooks-she reads it and is hysterical
I gave up on it but laughed my ass off with Amy Poehler’s book!!
I’m currently listening to Amy’s. I only just started and I’m loving it!
“Yes, Please” was funny!!
I think I quit too.
I listened to the audio book and thought meh… ditch it!
Keep going. It’s worth it!
It was my pick for my IRL book club and I really liked it, but nobody else did.
It’s good, but it’s not “funny”. Anna Kendrick’s Scrappy Little Nobody was cute. Didn’t make me laugh a ton, but made me smile a lot.
Ditch it
Ditch it. Life is too short to read that boring book.
I listened to the audiobook on a road trip. It was hilarious! Stay with it! We still crack up about the poem to her daughter (no tattoo of Winnie the Pooh holding the FSU logo should grace your tender haunches ?)
I read it. Expected more though.
Listened as audiobook. Entertaining. No laughable hilarity from me
I loved this book-laughed out loud a lot.
It was cute with smile moments for me, not laugh out loud hilarious.
Quit!
ditch
Keep going!! It’s great!!
I thought it was horrible but I’m not a fan
I quit at about the same spot. There’s not many books I haven’t finished either.
Keep going!
Ditch
And don’t bother w Amy Poehler’s book either
I find both of these women hilarious on TV…not so much when they write…
I didn’t love it, others in my book club did. If you aren’t enjoying it there are lots of other great books!
No it’s funny!
I couldn’t even get halfway through it.
Her book is like her TV shows. They’re not laugh-out-loud, but they’re brilliant. But if you’re not enjoying it by now, chances are you won’t at all. I’d recommend ditching it.
Ditch.
I loved it!
I tossed it. It was not for me
Oh, I loved it
Over/under /through is one of the best chapters I’ve read in any book
Ditch
Loved it
Thank you everyone. I decided I’m not going to finish it but will check out the audiobook instead!!
