To me they just sound like they are really excited and talking fast. I also can’t listen at the faster speeds when it’s not through headphones. It gets warbled the further away the sound is.

Me too actually. There are some books where the narrator does the best job of modulating tone in relation to the pace of the story.
And generally, I’m not the type of person to rush things. I like to enjoy to the fullest ?
