watch the movie first and appreciate it for what it is…someone’s interpretation of someone elses work. don’t compare the two because you will never have the same 100% of a 400 page book in an hour and half movie. film and literature though linked are two very different mediums. Read the book afterwards and think of it as a separate thing to the movie.
If I read the book first I have my own image of what the characters look like and my vision of their world based on the author’s words. When I see the movie it can jar if their vision is very different to mine. If I see the movie first then their vision is in my head when I read the book and that limits my imagination. However I have found times where it would have been difficult to appreciate nuances in the movie if I hadn’t had the additional depth of story detail from having read the book. Not a straightforward choice for me.
The book first I would say however, I watched Game or Thrones first then read the book (was too nosey to wait for the next season), glad I did. So many people, places, lines that I would have struggled to understand what was going on had I not watched first. If I find I miss something with the book, I will watch the movie and then re read the book 🙂
Although I need to add, I seen bridget Jones first then read it, prefered the movie. Seen Lord of the rings first then heard it was a book, love both of them
book first ALWAYS… some times you are better off skipping the movie all together as they just don’t get the characters (in my head) right on the screen 😉
Film first because yhey are never as good as the book! So enjoy the film first and the book even more after. If you read the book first the film will disappoint.
Book, but isn’t such a disappointment when movies cast actors who are so clearly wrong for the characters? Maybe the filmmakers should actually read the books before they begin casting…
Book
The book then u can fill in the blanks in the movie x

I agree with Sian above but I prefer to read the book first…and wait a good while before watching the film

Depends…do you want to enjoy the movie? If so, watch it first otherwise you’ll just be disappointed.
Read the book
Always read the book first. That way I can guarantee I’m disappointed that the film doesn’t match the scenes I saw in my head…

I always read the book first! Cant read it after ive seen it! Xx
Book first, it’s rare for a film to do it justice mainly because your own imagination is working and visualising when you read a book.
Although I need to add, I seen bridget Jones first then read it, prefered the movie. Seen Lord of the rings first then heard it was a book, love both of them
I say movie just because if I read the book first, I’m disappointed in the movie
To be fair, ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ and ‘The Green Mile’ were both fantatic film adaptations of the books…
Always the book first!!!
@Mandi – I tend to agree with you. I did not like Misery though.
Book first. Always. But after seeing gone girl, it would be a good one to see the movie first
Book always
The book first. Julia, loved Misery – the book but didn’t enjoy the film at all x
