I play squash a few nights a week. I just read after this but it does cut into my reading time quite a bit. I’ve got a sit down job so exercise is a must ?

How many!!! I manage 5 to 10 books a month, depending on how long and/or dense they are. I do 3 gym classes a week, plus walking to town.
I could quite happily swop the gym time for reading, but that’s why I need to do the exercise…
@Helen you and me both Helen….
Ps I normally read about 10-12 so I’m not in that ball park
Audio books are a great way to multitask
I used to read on the treadmill at the gym.
OMG, that’s what I do too!
I’m retired, that’s how. ?
I probably only average 5/6 books per month. I work full time, do volunteer work, I’m in two bands and bring up two children on my own. Very little time for exercise, though I cycle everywhere do wish I bothered to exercise. Reading is far more enjoyable for me though ha
@Gemma I remember days when the kids were little hiding for a short whole with a bar of chocolate, that I did not want to share, and a book reckoning 10 mins on their own wouldn’t kill them….
Wow, you’re admirable 🙂
I read only one to two books per month and my excuse is my full time job and a few lessons, that I take. But no kids, no pets…
Having a bad month reading-wise now though. Haven’t even started one
I exercise everyday, faithfully, and read about 5-8 books a month.
I read WHILE exercising! I go to the gym 4 times a week and because it’s so incredibly boring and I hate it, I always bring my tablet with me. All the cardio equipment in my gym has a convenient little shelf near the display, where the tab fits perfectly. In the end I have at least an hour to read something and I don’t feel so bored and resentful, which is also a plus. This actually makes me look forward to exercising when I’m in the middle of an especially good book!
I don’t read 50 books/month. Or even 50 books /year. But some folks do.
I’d say I read 10-12 per year. But I read four newspapers per day plus several magazines.
I try to fit in excercise when I can. I own a rower, which is good aerobic.excercise. Also walking and doing stairs is good too.
I buy my.books, so if I were to read 50 books/month the cost would be too great.?
Audiobooks work for some while exercising.
Personally, I read as many books as I do because I don’t watch TV and I don’t get enough sleep ?♀️
What?? 200 book a a month?? I’m lucky to get through 4??
I wonder, do some of those people review children’s books? I might be at about 200 for the year already but I will review books I read with my girls. I also read a decent chunk of novellas and graphic novels which inflates that book count.
Do you mean per month or per year? There would be a very small percentage of people that read that much.
An early morning walk then a book with breakfast?
50 to 200 books?? ?? Is that possible?? Do these people work too? Cause this makes me feel lazy ?
@Eda I think that she’s either exaggerating for effect or she knows someone who reviews picture books/graphic novels.
@Amanda I guess you’re right?
I mean, I review on Goodreads about 350 books a year, but I’d guess off hand that maybe 150 of them are novels, 50-75 graphic novels and the rest are all picture books.
@Amanda I see…
Well I read usually one per month and sometimes that’s difficult too. But it has also to do with time management and I’m not good at that.
I have a combo of factors – I’ve had two kids and been nursing them for the last four years and I read on my phone while I nurse them-and that’s a huge chunk of reading time as a result. I also listen to audiobooks while I lie with them to help them fall asleep and whenever I do housework.
But mostly, I don’t watch TV. Not entirely by choice – the kids are around and so I can’t really watch anything grown up and my husband works evenings so I don’t really watch anything after they are sleeping. So I just read.
I also don’t do the driving and regularly read in the car. Another huge chunk of time many people don’t have. Just going to all their kid activities I probably have about 4-5 hours of reading then.
@Amanda I think the problem is tv. I had stopped for 4 years watching TV and now I’m watching again. Not really long hours but yet, there are some evenings, after work that will get wasted in front of that device.
I mean, there’s some good TV out there. And sometimes you need some downtime. I definitely have had periods where I watched far more than now.
@Eda I can do 50-100 books a year, but only by not watching tv, exercising, or cleaning my house. I’m also an insoniac, so I only sleep 3 or 4 hours a night. I don’t know how anyone could read 200 books a year if they have a full time job. Maybe they’re retired or independently wealthy.
@Lynne exactly! With a full time job, a house, friends and other hobbies I don’t think it’s possible to read more than one book per month. ?
The number if books one can read per month really depends on the type of book. Is it fiction or nonfiction ? Also is it academic or nonacademic?
Also important is your ability to understand and retain the material you”ve read. Needless to say, your age and the health of your eyes is also important.
Run on a treadmill with a book stand? Or listen to audio books while working out?
I don’t know how they do it. I’ve even been forgetting to walk my dog lately. He’s starting to get a little belly.
That’s why I find it almost impossible.
I guess they just eat, read and sleep ?
@Eda You still have to have a life. I’m feeling bad right now because I’ve been neglecting my dog. I’ve just been coming home, getting in to the bath, and then reading for 3 hours before I go to bed. I’m going to start walking him more–healthier for both of us.
Also, I do like to see some of my human friends occasionally.
I do read around 200 books a year. I am disabled which gives me more reading time, however I am a speed reader which drives the count up. I do not read children”s books nor graphic novels. I also read large print books when my eyes get tired and those are easier on the eyes and fast reads.I also have insomnia where there are times I get no sleep and read then until my brain is too tired to absorb anything. I have a very low immune system and when I go out a lot I get sick so I tend to be a homebody which also gives more reading time.
Thanks for your response, Mary.
I’m not a speed reader so my eyes do get tired with time..That’s when I stop
reading,?
@Mary what is a speed reader??
A speed reader is someone who can read extremely fast, yet still retain the gist of what has been read. I have had days where I can read 2 books in one day if they are paperbacke or smaller books. Books the size of War and Peace will take 2 to 3 days to read though. This is a splendid question and I thank you for asking.
I would walk and listen to audio books, like schieffer’s this just in, and no country for old men, 11-22-63, adventures of Huckleberry finn. I think I remember the audio books better than I remember the ones I read with my own eyes .
I know I remember the movie better than I recall the book of a specific author.
