Philippa Gregory’s books look interesting and like something I’d be into. Is she any good? And what should I start with by her?

I really enjoyed her books, entertaining reads, not too difficult and she stays true to basic history, builds her stories around it.

I enjoyed the first few I read, the Tudor ones, but some of them are little a light on story. There are some books with overlapping historical periods looking at it from different main character perspective which are interesting but a little repetitive in places. I would read the Tudor ones but then be more choosy.

There are two main series – The main one covers the Tudor period and the first book published was ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ that was where I started as it was the first one published. But I would now start with ‘The Constant Princess’ which covers Henry VIII first wife Katherine of Aragon and then continue from there. The other series covers before Henry VIII with the first one is ‘Lady of the Rivers’ – just google Reading order for Philippa Gregory and they are all there. They are all great. ?

Love her books as others have said definitely to be read chronologically if you plan to read more than one. But you can read them in isolation

I love everything by her. You could read them in any order, or chronologically. They’re written well enough to be read out of order.
She writes so vividly, it’s wonderful.

She’s great, I have all of her Tudor books, a lot of them have been made into fantastic shows too. Historically accurate, just a little embellished to make a good series.

I’ve only read her book about Catherine of Aragon. The story was good, I won’t lie. I do have a few issues. There are a lot of italics. For example, if she’s writing about someone’s thoughts, she writes them all in italics and sometimes it’s entire pages (or 4…) she also spelled Catherine of Aragon, Katherine of Aragon.. Henry’s 4th wife (Katherine Howard) was a K. Simple things like that threw me but overall it was a good story and I’d read more books by her, although not back to back.

I think you will find there are variations on the spelling of Catherine for all the relevant wives ie including Parr

Jenn

@Judy I know a lot of the time it’s used as interchangeable but something about it just irks me lol I always associate C with the first and K with the fourth lol I got confused a few times but the story was good

I like her series on the Plantagenet series. There’s about 10 of them. They start with Lady of the Rivers. I’ve read 4 of them so far and I think they’re great. If you want to follow the series go on http://philippagregory.com/ and she lists them in order.

They are okaaaay and get somewhat repetitive!
Suggest you start with The Last Boleyn Girl or The Constant Princess (I believe is the 1st Tudor Novel), Nice way to enjoy historical fiction!
Enjoy Reading ? ??
