Philippa Gregory’s books look interesting and like something I’d be into. Is she any good? And what should I start with by her?

I really enjoyed her books, entertaining reads, not too difficult and she stays true to basic history, builds her stories around it.
I’d start with lady of the rivers and read it chronologically from there
Absolutely loved all of her books. Id say the boleyn sisters but thats just cause its what got me hooked.
I’m reading my first one by her now…..3 Sisters 3 Queens and loving it!
Thank you!! I will look into this.
I LOVED The Other Boleyn Girl!
For me .. too much chicklit not enough history..
I liked them
Loved them to
Love her books!!!
I love her books!!
I loved her books. I would read them chronologically
I love love love her books. Start with the other Boleyn girl. The whole series is fantastic.
I have only read, The Boleyn inheritance. And I loved the book. I am looking forward for more books by her.
My favourite author! Definitely read them
Wideacre first in a series of 3
Yes she is super god
Yes start with wideacre
I enjoyed the first few I read, the Tudor ones, but some of them are little a light on story. There are some books with overlapping historical periods looking at it from different main character perspective which are interesting but a little repetitive in places. I would read the Tudor ones but then be more choosy.
IV been given a load of her books but wasn’t sure myself
Not something I would normally read but might just give them a try..
She is quite brilliant.
The Other Boleyn Girl is great
There are two main series – The main one covers the Tudor period and the first book published was ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ that was where I started as it was the first one published. But I would now start with ‘The Constant Princess’ which covers Henry VIII first wife Katherine of Aragon and then continue from there. The other series covers before Henry VIII with the first one is ‘Lady of the Rivers’ – just google Reading order for Philippa Gregory and they are all there. They are all great. ?
Yes she’s a great writer. I agree with starting with ‘ The Other Boleyn Girl’
Read the book first and then watch the movie with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson it’s fab xx
@Meghan a brilliant set of books… easy to ready and well researched
Yes i have enjoyed the ones that i have read
Her Plantagenet/Tudor series is good, starting with The Lady Of Rivers
Some of her books are shockingly provocative,, I liked that about her.
Love her books as others have said definitely to be read chronologically if you plan to read more than one. But you can read them in isolation
Jenn Rose I haven’t read them all but I’m thinking of starting again in order
Very interesting writer! Great historical fiction! I have read her books in order, but that is just me.
Love everything she writes. Give me that over a psychological thriller any day ! Try Wideacre too
Yes I’ve enjoyed many of the books recommended here. And if you like this type of fiction you might also enjoy Sharon Kay Penman, particularly “Here be Dragons” and “the Sunne in Splendour” , two of my favorite books ever
@Terri thanks!!
I love her books as well!
My favorite was The other Boleyn girl
I love everything by her. You could read them in any order, or chronologically. They’re written well enough to be read out of order.
She writes so vividly, it’s wonderful.
My fav was “The Other Boleyn Girl” but the 2 Series are the Tudor books and the Cousins war books. Awesome!
Very good and very well researched. Top author
One of my favorite authors
Really enjoy her books. Have read everything in her Tudor series.
Love her books.
I love her books.
the other boylen girl (or something like that) it’s awesome
That was the first of her books I read–Love the books and the time in history she writes about.
Love her
The other Boleyn girl
She’s great, I have all of her Tudor books, a lot of them have been made into fantastic shows too. Historically accurate, just a little embellished to make a good series.
She is amazing. You will not be disappointed
She’s amazing, start with the Virgin queen xx
Maybe try Barbara Erskine too, she’s amazing bringing past and present together. The lady of hay was her first book, big book but amazing♥️
@Lisa thanks for this info!
@Marna most welcome xx
The Lady of the Rivers is the first of the Boleyn series
I enjoy her books!
I like her x
Oh yes I suggest find the first book she wrote
I’ve only read her book about Catherine of Aragon. The story was good, I won’t lie. I do have a few issues. There are a lot of italics. For example, if she’s writing about someone’s thoughts, she writes them all in italics and sometimes it’s entire pages (or 4…) she also spelled Catherine of Aragon, Katherine of Aragon.. Henry’s 4th wife (Katherine Howard) was a K. Simple things like that threw me but overall it was a good story and I’d read more books by her, although not back to back.
I think you will find there are variations on the spelling of Catherine for all the relevant wives ie including Parr
@Judy I know a lot of the time it’s used as interchangeable but something about it just irks me lol I always associate C with the first and K with the fourth lol I got confused a few times but the story was good
Just dive in, all her books are a great read.
Wideacre is very underrated! I feel like it’s comparable to TOBG
I like her series on the Plantagenet series. There’s about 10 of them. They start with Lady of the Rivers. I’ve read 4 of them so far and I think they’re great. If you want to follow the series go on http://philippagregory.com/ and she lists them in order.
I’ve LOVED every one of her books I’ve read! I wish Wideacre was on my override 🙁
They are okaaaay and get somewhat repetitive!
Suggest you start with The Last Boleyn Girl or The Constant Princess (I believe is the 1st Tudor Novel), Nice way to enjoy historical fiction!
Enjoy Reading ? ??
First one of hers I read was The Other Boleyn Girl. I was hooked after that!
