Cell by Stephen King, the only ending he wrote that truly maddened me ??

Horrible book. I stopped 350 pages in.

1
Olivia

@John what?! I loved it!! My first King book ? the ending killed me though ?

0
Kim

I would have to go with Cell as well…not my favorite read, however. Maybe 11/22/63. ?

Olivia

@Kim oh I loved the ending of 11/22/63 bitter but sweet ?

1
JohnQuestion author

That was why I rated it a 3. Would have been a 4 otherwise.

1
Kim

It was. But I almost teared up! Beautiful read. ❤

0
Olivia

@Kim I legit did cry ?

1
Kim

Lisey’s Story is the only one he has made me shed a tear, that last sentence. ?

1
Olivia

@Kim Liseys Story is my all time favourite book (other than the Dark Tower series of course)

Z for Zachariah. But, to be fair, the author passed before completing it so it was finished by his daughter I believe.

I’d like to give the script of the My Sister’s Keeper movie back to the writers and tell them to fix it!

Cathi

@Heather I want to know why they changed it the way they did, what did it gain? Was it more pc???

2
Pamela

How are the endings different?

1
Baillee

Different sisters die in each.

1
Heather

@Cathi in my opinion, changing it just made it typical where the original ending was a shock.

2
Baillee

@Heather I agree completely!

0

too many silly marriages

0

Im just upset that Harry didn’t die. I thought it was a cop-out. And the epic, end-all fight felt rushed. I was disappointed. I’m not gonna say that I hate the book, just wanted a little more out of it

0
Karen

I want to say the last Dark Tower book. I literally threw my book across the room. But…I also understand why it ended the way it did. And, to be fair, he does warn you to stop before that ending. Not that it’s possible to listen, but still.

I would like a better ending to IT, though. That’s one of my favorite books that I’ve read several times and that ending kills me every time.

Ready Player One. I’d tell Cline that the controller dude of the net being into the 80’s is really… dumb. The 80’s sucked. Your book sucks now too. I want to finish it. 70’s or 90’s?

Pamela

@Carrie how?

0
Carrie

@Pamela She wrote it first, but her style evolved in the years to actually publishing it. Parts of it were okay, but her alleged refusal to edit it makes it seem like she was trying to force the happy ending feelings.

0
Pamela

I disagree lol. It was great

0
Carrie

@Pamela I’m glad you enjoyed it however!

0
Reply
Eliza

@Pamela what? why? did you read the historical notes at the end?

0
Pamela

I can’t remember if I did or not. But the book was such a bore I probably didn’t.

0
Pamela

And the ending was so worthless

0
Eliza

@Pamela the historical notes are part of the book. they are the ending. so it doesn’t really make sense unless you read them. and it’s also up to your interpretation. those are the best kinds of endings: open ended because the story doesn’t end there.

0
Pamela

I disagree lol. I hate open ended books, always have

1
Eliza

@Pamela ok. we all have different opinions ?‍♀️

What The Fuck Did I Just Read by: David Wong, wouldn’t mind if he went ahead and rewrote the whole book while he was at it. But the ending in particular was a stinker. It’s one thing when you ruin a book it’s another thing when you ruin a whole series, especially when the first book was so good.

Nia

Maybe Allegiant

2
Reply
Pamela

Wow. That just seems arrogant. It’s their creative process whether we like it or not.

Judith

@Pamela l read for pleasure and lm glad you have never read a book where you thought “well that sucks” after reading it. The ending of a book sometimes brings down your whole reading pleasure of it.

2
Pamela

Well said @Judith
Reading is our creative process imo so it works both ways. Also, we’re not talking literally here.

Becky

I wish The Tattooist of Auschwitz went into more detail other than an epilogue. It seemed like there was more of his story to tell.

Sorry, but I dont get why so many of these are “sad” or “disappointing”….. I would HATE all books to have “perfect happy” ending?! Right? For example… compare Raymond Carver’s stories “THE BATH”, and the extended rewrite “A SMALL GOOD THING” …I much prefer the short “dark” original!
