I love that book… hate all of the characters with a passion… but love the book

Not a fan myself. I enjoy the writing but felt completely disconnected from the story and characters.

Begrudgingly accept it, ask her to read Slaughterhouse Five, and bond over that instead. If she doesn’t like that, you gotta throw out the whole girlfriend ?

It’s a boring book with very unlikable bratty characters. She has good taste. You should look at reading what she likes instead.

People love it or hate it. I liked the book though the characters were pretty unlikable so when I finished it I was also torn with myself. ?

Throw her away. She’s broken

Well, you probably hate one of your books. I like Gatsby, but a lot people don’t. If you ask me, it’s a reality show set in the 1920’s, which is weird because I hate reality shows.

You can’t. She deserves better than someone who judges her for her taste in books.

Maybe just appreciate that you have a significant other who likes to read as well and be good with that?

If she’s a reader, and you’re a reader, be happy. Having all the same books in common is asking for the moon when you already have the stars. 🙂

If she like Leonardo DiCaprio she might enjoy the movie. It might work if there’s a way to compare the story and movie.

Read Theodore Dreiser’s “An American Tragedy,” wait for her to realize how much better the Great Gatsby is, boom. Saved. Or, accept it and realize there are much better books out in the world than Fitzgerald’s Gatsby.

I think you’ll find most of the people who really love The Great Gatsby are men. It’s a book written very much for other men from a man’s POV. Unless your relationship is predicated on a single book, I think you two will be fine. Surely there are other books you’ve both read that you can talk about?

Great point! I wasn’t a big fan of book. I had to read it for my English class and didn’t enjoy it. Later on, I tried to read it again because maybe I didn’t enjoy it cause I was forced to read it, right? Nope. Still couldn’t get into it lol.

1
Michelle

Excellent point! I I think women have tons of options with strong heroines, more all the time, and so some of the appeal of reading a classic written by a white, straight, male author is lost.

Mariely

I love the Great Gatsby and I’m a female.

Well hopefully you have tons of money to distract her. Maybe through huge parties too and invite everyone you both ever met. You know, distract her. *Love her,* I mean love her

The book or the movie ? I liked the book enough but couldn’t even finish the movie because Tobey Macguire makes me feel super awkward and uncomfortable ?

Realize that basing a relationship on the idea that you both have to like the same things is stupid and childish. As people say – variety is the spice of life. The same can be said of relationships

Well, you could always become a producer and release your own version of the movie where Tom is the one that runs Myrtle over and Wilson shoots him, Gatsby and Daisy elope and Nick doesn’t lose a good friend? Yeah, that ought to save the relationship between the three. ?

By excepting the fact she doesn’t like the book and she has her choice in reading and you have yours. Relationships isn’t based on books eachother like.. I hope!!!!
