I always tell people to try Joyland for the first book, it’s slightly different to his other books with the style of his writing, but it’s thin, easy to read and a great start to King, then I would suggest Misery and his other thinner books to start off with before going for his bigger ones like IT and the stand.

@Terri I just finished Misery. I loved it. I will have to chech our Joyland.

@Crystal It’s so different to all his other books in the style, but I absolutely couldn’t put it down when I read it, I think I read it in two sittings, only because I really had to sleep XD

Crystal

I definitely have to check it out then.

The Stand, The Shining, Pet Sematary, Gerald’s Game, Carrie, Dead Zone, Firestarter… so many good ones! And then Under the Dome and 11/22/63 are good but not scary like his others. He’s just a phenomenal writer.

Depending upon your tolerance for scary stories. If you want to start light go with Carrie. If you want to get really scared go with Pet Sematary, It, or The Shining. They are all great books though. You could start and read them in order of publication. The books are ALL better than the movies in my opinion.

@Eleanor i’ve been watching the programme Under the Dome on TV @ the moment and it’s brilliant didn’t realise till someone told me it was a Stephen King book lol ? x

1
Eleanor

Trust me…the book is even better! If you’re liking the show, you will LOVE the book.

0
Rachel

I’ll have to have a look in library for it and order it in if they not got it at the branch up my end x

1
Eleanor

Just be aware that it is a very long book…over 1000 pages.

0
Rachel

I don’t mind that, I read the limited edition of The Chronicles of Narnia in one go it’s all the stories in one big hard back and that was over 1000 pages. I don’t mind so much when it’s a good book, it’s just boring one’s with that many pages I would give up on x

1
Eleanor

I’m the same way, but I like to give people a head’s up. 🙂
