It is! I didn’t know anything about it either, and I’m so glad I read it.

Don’t read it expecting a wild ride of a plot – it unfolds gradually. I suggest letting yourself be drawn into the atmosphere and environment of Kya’s marsh world, and that, I think, is where the magic of this book is found.

This is a 5 star for me. This group is wonderful! At Christmas, I sent my children photos of books people on this page gave 4-5 stars. I received 7 of these books as gifts. Every single one was superb!!!!!

The flora and fauna of the marsh is magical. The author is rooted in the science of it all, so the setting is key. You’ll smell it and feel the humidity. That’s the ride. This feral child is raised and responds in marsh culture.

I just finished it last night. Five stars for me. You can see that the author is knowledgeable about research on flora and fauna. I loved that she incorporated her experience into the storyline.

I’m about 75% through and enjoying it. A very wonderful story. But I’m a nature girl so it really appeals to me. I love the Everglades.

In the middle of Crawdads. Really enjoying it. Was not sure I would—early comments seemed to favor it and then the naysayers showed up expressing their displeasure. So far I like it!

It’s about a young girl growing up in the swamps mostly their alone, she is very shy, now if you like books that tells you how this land looks, so you can feel her environment, I love books like that others think it’s a waste of words!

If it is a waste of words, it is a beautiful waste of words! There can’t be too many words in good writing anymore than there can be too many notes in a beautiful aria by Mozart.
