For romance I would suggest any of the Nora Roberts trilogies and quartets, Kristan Higgins’ Blue Heron series, any Lisa Kleypas series (historical or contemporary). Mystery – Scotland Yard’s Murder Squad series by Alex Grecian, Oak Knoll series by Tami Hoag, Patricia Cornwell’s Scarpetta series, and for a bit of comic relief, Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Fantasy – *cracks knuckles* Nope… I got nothin’. The fantasy I would suggest are either stand alones or the books are too long. lol Can I sub with paranormal? Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series; Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series; JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood, Fallen Angels, and Black Dagger Brotherhood Legacy series; Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander and Fever series (those two series actually go together, but you don’t have to read both series to get it. The Highlander series just gives you more insight into the Fever world).

Different releases of the same books can have significantly different page numbers. Of course, I didn’t hunt up page numbers before making my list, so there’s a good chance several are over the 250 page number request. I was just making suggestions of series I personally have enjoyed that don’t really contain large books. ?

I really like Cirque du Freak. It’s a younger aimed series, and it’s very dark. Definitely along the SciFi, fantasy, horror genre. It’s well written and easily grabs your attention.

I’m finishing up the Avery Black series by Blake Pierce, they have been way better than I was expecting.
