lol , I have the same problem with books written before 1790 !
Total opposite for me I can’t read new pop fiction, I don’t know the slang the tech or what anyone is talking about?
I struggle with the same issues 😉
I read mostly books set in and/ or written in England ,Ireland ,wales scotland etc … than i go to read more modern books and im horrified. Lol

I get it. The same for me. I only like certain genres and writing styles. I like old musical and/or dance movies but that’s all I like between 1930 & 1970.
Maybe because you don’t know these novels and their authors 😛

Just started ‘As I Lay Dying’,by Faulkner. Pretty good so far.
The style certainly was different. Much heavier i think is how i would put it. I know that’s woefully inadequate but not sure how to express it really
