“On Reading Old Books” {William Hazlitt; 1821}
“I hate to read new books. There are twenty or thirty volumes that I have read over and over again, and these are the only ones that I have any desire ever to read at all.”

“I do love secondhand books that open to the page some previous owner read oftenest. The day Hazlitt came he opened to “I hate to read new books,” and I hollered “Comrade!” to whoever owned it before me.”
{Helene Hanff; “84, Charing Cross Road”; 1970}

I get it. The same for me. I only like certain genres and writing styles. I like old musical and/or dance movies but that’s all I like between 1930 & 1970.

The style certainly was different. Much heavier i think is how i would put it. I know that’s woefully inadequate but not sure how to express it really
