Just wondering, most of the people I know who read can listen to music while reading. I’m not so good with that, how do you do that??

I tend to sing along most of the time but if I’m engrossed enough in the book the music is just background noise and helps me to relax

Its one of the bad reading habit because music would not encourage you to read more and understand but lead reader to confusion and distraction as well.

I do EVERYTHING listening to music, or singing, or playing music, or having a song stuck in my head… including reading lol…

Most of the times two different things can not run at the same time.

It helps me shut out everything else around me to focus on my book 🙂 I love to listen to music and read – especially when travelling. Music and books are my life!

I can read in a public place where music is playing, but I don’t intentionally put music on at home while I’m reading.

I am a master at multi tasking. I can hold a conversation, watch a movie, listen to music, watch over my children, cook, …, all while reading. I have no idea how I do it. I just do.

I can listen to music in the background while reading non-fiction. Fiction, no way, can’t listen to music. Also, can only listen to classical. Anything with lyrics, I just sit there singing along.

I can’t

Nope. Can’t do it. This applies to reading, working at the computer or even holding conversations. If I am reading, I am fully engrossed and if I am listening to music, I can only manage repetitive manual tasks.

I love it! & I’ll usually listen 2 music that corresponds with the book. Like, I was reading a book about a LA gangbanger & listening to PAC at the same time. DOPE!

I can read with my husband poking at me – doing the “I’m not touching you routine” and the loud music he plays in the car. 🙂

Oddly enough the only music I canNOT listen too is Classical. I end up focusing on that instead of the book. Even music I don’t like isn’t really distracting. I get into the zone when I read. Not too many things can keep me out of it.

I can read in public with noise and stuff. Like low music or in public transports with cars honking. But if i put music on my own it distracts me. I would prolly sing instead of read?.

I can’t manage it quite as well as reading without music. It has to be instrumental if I must have music to drown out something else.

1

Dale

Classical or light jazz to drown out the barking dog across the street.

I can put music on .. but while reading it will not register anymore.. unless it bugs me like heat/cold/bugs/hunger…

Depends on the reason I’m reading. A magazine for fun? No problem. When my husband and I went on a road trip he was listening to an audiobook. THAT was tough!! I had to put music on (no words, and nothing with a tune I recognized) and I was able to read my book.

All depends on the mood I am in. Sometimes I like to read in silence, sometimes I listen to music.

I can usually tolerate music if it’s something I know very well, then I don’t get distracted by the lyrics. I usually have music on to block out background noise if I’m out and about, but at home I can read in silence.

I listen to non vocal music… Like solo piano.. Or non familiar song will do.. Because if you listen to your favourite songs, you’ll lose your focus idk but that’s what i think about it.

I have kids and pets. If I want to read I have to tune it all out. It’s a skill I have perfected. I can read with anything going on in the background. I think an audio book in the background might throw me though! ?

I prefer quiet. I can handle neighborhood noises while reading on my front porch, but in the house no television or music.
