He’s great…the science is solid (so say the scientists I work with) and he left it open enough that we could get a series!!

The Expanse series is very good. (And the tv series too!). I love the relationship of the ship’s crew.

I second the Scalzi rec although Collapsing Empire is a bit easier in my opinion. Also Redshirts if you’re looking for something lighter!

I rate Artemis at zero. Hated it.

London…it was great. I rate it a 4. I didn’t see The Martian as a scifi book even tho it obviously was so my anticipation of Artemis was that it WASN’T scifi. I don’t know that this is a genre I read often so it was a surprise and enjoyable. The main character is a smuggler, but likable. And the problems that she face are all pretty unique and the science is solid.

New York 2140 by Kim Stanley Robinson – my favorite book of 2017. You’ll never read headlines about global warming the same. Great characters and moves along swiftly.

It’s on my TBR list. You might try reading Seveneves by Neil Stephenson. Was one of my faves last year.

I enjoyed the story but it felt like it was written to be a screenplay instead of a novel. Unfortunately, I find a lot of modern fiction feeling that way.

The Left Hand of Darkness, Le Guin’s science is anthropology. LHD is about a planet whose humans are gender neutral most of the time, but, when they sexualize, never know from one time to the next if they will become male or female. It’s just flat out great, brilliant writing.

Someone recommended Bella Forrest’s The Girl Who Dared to Think and it was available. It’s a fast read, like most of Bella’s stuff. At first I was really miffed. But I think dystopian novels SHOULD make one feel that way.
