I agree in part because when my kids were young, and I was working full-time, I read “maybe” one book for years. I’m proud that in 2017 I read five books.

It’s always good to set goals. This year I hope to read seven books in 2018

Nobody is better than the others. It’s just fun to see how people who are in different situations read. Whether you’ve read 1 or 20 is impressive because at least people are reading and enjoying what they are reading.

2
Reply
Daniel

why is this even a question?

0
Reply
AngelaQuestion author

Because it’s fun and interesting to some people.

0
Daniel

how many books?? psh…. what size are they? how many pages?? how large is the print?? is it a light idiot romance or some heavy Russian tomb?? you act like a book is a standard sized thing and that the number matters in some way

1
AngelaQuestion author

The number doesn’t matter at all. And 1 huge book or 20 picture books doesn’t matter either. It was just a curiosity question.

1
Summer
1
Daniel

then why even ask? I see these ludicrous posts all the time here, alongside the “how many books do you plan to read this year” posts. it’s inane and annoying

0
Daniel

@Summer so, you found this post fun? seriously?

0
Summer

Yes!

1
Crysta

It’s not my cup of tea either but other people really enjoy it so, whatever, I just don’t usually participate in the conversation. Partly because I don’t keep track so I have no answer. But as someone who does occasionally get excited by data, I do think adding in additional metrics besides number of books would be much more interesting. I have friends who track this in massive spreadsheets of pages read, genre, author, you name it. If it can be tracked, they track it. And it’s fun to look at with them.

Some people just want a brief moment to brag, and/or be inspired by, how much they and others are reading. It’s fine. There are things that I like that other people find annoying/stupid and I appreciate when they let me have my moments of fun with it so I try to do the same for other people.
