I ordered ” corrections ” from Amazon but by the time it got reached I somehow read a article about how it has been the most donated book to the library and how people gifted the book as a Christmas present to get rid of that book .Eventually I didn’t collect the book.I am telling you there is so much hatred for this guy that if he started a funeral parlor people would avoid dying .
So here’s the thing. He’s a douche. He wrote these ten rules for writing and they were the most ridiculous rules. Things like if you have the internet while writing a book, nothing you write will be of a quality worth sharing. He got openly mocked for it and rightfully so. If you’re gonna be a couch to other writers and write such ridiculous crap and then refuse to acknowledge that your way is not the only way, you deserve the hate.
His book A million little pieces was controversial. Marketed as memoir, proved more false & work of fiction.Worse was his book was promoted by Oprah. He seemed to bounce back after a few years.
Not “bad”–I loved The Corrections. I think he’s a little pretentious and insufferable in terms of personality. I once saw him getting breakfast in a coffee shop on the East Side and he both wanted people to recognize him and to be left alone.
From what I’ve seen its more of his attitude than his writing that is the problem.
I like his work.

@Ameer it’s a good book.
I enjoyed “Corrections” and “Freedom”, I think his unpopularity is due to an egomaniacal personality. I try not to judge a book by it’s author. ?
I literally got The Corrections from a library sale and then promptly donated after I finished ??
@George I enjoyed Freedom, too.
I think it’s professional envy and too much fame too soon combined with the author’s awkward personality. The Corrections is a good book.
I liked it!
I have no idea about his attitude and personality. I believe he’s the best American contemporary writer alive.

The name sounds familiar. I think I read his earlier books in college ?

You’re thinking of James Frey. And despite the scandal, I liked his book, too.
@Lisa you are correct. Apologies
I thought The Corrections was one of the most pretentious novels I’ve ever read, and have no interest in reading anything else of his.
I haven’t read him but did try. I won’t say he is bad but he is not my style
Definitely not my style but reading is so subjective. The Corrections was a bestseller but I could not read it!
