The best Kentucky author??Great concept for book groups to read different genres then share most meaningful passages!

Yes I love that he eventually returned to farm in Kentucky although Wallace Stegner (if I understand this correctly) wanted him to stay at Stanford after attending a writer’s conference which included Ernest Gaines and Larry McMurty among the attendees.

@Anne He lives about an hour from us so we see him every so often – an honor.

Oh yes!! I was introduced by my daughter who had to read The Memory Of Old Jack in high school. Made me a fan, as I read it as well.

Love The Peace of Wild

The Peace of Wild Things
BY WENDELL BERRY, SPECIAL CONTRIBUTOR
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

I live in Kentucky, so I have wanted to read his work but haven’t gotten around to it. Too many good books, not enough time.
