Trilogy…emotionally painful to read, but worth the journey.

Depressing. One has to be in the right frame of mind to tackle it.

It’s about abuse he indured from his mother… makes you question why would you do that to your own child xx

Misty

Yeah, it’s about the shit his mother put him through growing up. Starving him, torturing him, making him throw up and then eat what came up when she found out he was sneaking food. Having him clean enclosed areas of the house while breathing in ammonia. I read this when I was like 13 years old and it tends to mess with you a bit since it’s Non Fiction.

Oh ! it seems heartbreaking and tragic story ☹️ although i like this genre

It’s a great series so don’t let that deter you =) And his story does get better <3 But just know it’s more of a psychological mind fuck of a book.

I’ve read all 3 but the first one is the only one that has stuck with me over the years. Try reading Torey L Hayden books as well.

The privledge youth should also be included . It fills in a time gap.
Hid brother Richard Pelzer, wrote of the same events from his point of view..he was the brother that would be his mothers helper.

So you’re saying his brother suffered like his brother

0
Sarah

Yes, the same in some ways, but completely different also.

Cindy

His brother wasn’t targeted for abuse the way Dave was. For some reason, the female chose Dave as the cause of all her problems, and he took the brunt of the physical abuse… But it had to have been difficult, emotionally, on the other children as well… (I seem to remember a sister too, someone correct me if I’m wrong?)

1
Sarah

There were two older brothers. He was targeted because he looked like his dad, was close to his dad as well. It was almost like her way of punishing the dad.

Cindy

Wonder where I got the idea of a sister… *shrugs* I made it through the first book, and I think part way through the second one, before I had to give up and read something a little lighter… Still haven’t got back to the series, but one day I’ll finish them. This is the first I’m hearing about a book by a sibling, but now I suppose I’ll have to find a copy of that as well 😉

Sarah

If you ever get a chance to listen to him speak somewhere please do. He is a wonderful, kind man amd what he has to say is truly enlightening.

Morally

It can be found as three individual books or as a compilation. I have the latter – since I found it, and simply gave the single books away; as well as the book by his brother Richard.

A Brothers Story by Richard B. Pelzer Surviving a childhood of abuse

1
Sarah

A brothers journey and teenagers journey, he has two books

1
Nikki

I thought he did, lol I just couldn’t find it and didn’t want to give wrong info

2
Nikki

Oh just found it lol!

1
Sarah

I did not like his as well. Even though he was a child, it was hard to have sympathy. I think he wrote it to save face.

2
Nikki

I didn’t like the way he wrote that much, but I understand where’s he’s coming from… as he grew up that’s all he knew was watching his brother get abused so it was normal to him, which made him think it was ok… such sad stuff in those books man

1
Sarah

Too much, I’ve never had a book physically make me I’ll. But there was parts where i had to literally put the book down and throw up or sob.

I read all 3 books.. and let me tell you.. it took me forever to get thru the first one.. it was because I would cry so much that I would have to stop and sit there for a moment to get myself together! But they are a wonderful but yet heartbreaking! I own them.. but can’t bring myself to read them again!

I would put in books for a few different ages, including a coloring book with a small box of crayons.
