Yeah, it’s about the shit his mother put him through growing up. Starving him, torturing him, making him throw up and then eat what came up when she found out he was sneaking food. Having him clean enclosed areas of the house while breathing in ammonia. I read this when I was like 13 years old and it tends to mess with you a bit since it’s Non Fiction.
The privledge youth should also be included . It fills in a time gap. Hid brother Richard Pelzer, wrote of the same events from his point of view..he was the brother that would be his mothers helper.
His brother wasn’t targeted for abuse the way Dave was. For some reason, the female chose Dave as the cause of all her problems, and he took the brunt of the physical abuse… But it had to have been difficult, emotionally, on the other children as well… (I seem to remember a sister too, someone correct me if I’m wrong?)
There were two older brothers. He was targeted because he looked like his dad, was close to his dad as well. It was almost like her way of punishing the dad.
Wonder where I got the idea of a sister… *shrugs* I made it through the first book, and I think part way through the second one, before I had to give up and read something a little lighter… Still haven’t got back to the series, but one day I’ll finish them. This is the first I’m hearing about a book by a sibling, but now I suppose I’ll have to find a copy of that as well 😉
It can be found as three individual books or as a compilation. I have the latter – since I found it, and simply gave the single books away; as well as the book by his brother Richard.
I didn’t like the way he wrote that much, but I understand where’s he’s coming from… as he grew up that’s all he knew was watching his brother get abused so it was normal to him, which made him think it was ok… such sad stuff in those books man
I read all 3 books.. and let me tell you.. it took me forever to get thru the first one.. it was because I would cry so much that I would have to stop and sit there for a moment to get myself together! But they are a wonderful but yet heartbreaking! I own them.. but can’t bring myself to read them again!
ok thnx
These books are a great read. They really make you think. I own them all and they are one of my fall back books that I read over and over.
i already own the Lost Boy :v
I think it’s a series….
Trilogy…emotionally painful to read, but worth the journey.
Depressing. One has to be in the right frame of mind to tackle it.
i’m on to it 🙂
It’s a hard one to read.
Why ?
@Misty
It’s about abuse he indured from his mother… makes you question why would you do that to your own child xx

Oh ! it seems heartbreaking and tragic story ☹️ although i like this genre
It’s a great series so don’t let that deter you =) And his story does get better <3 But just know it’s more of a psychological mind fuck of a book.
? i hope i can handle it
Let us know what you think of it! =)
Absolutely 🙂 whenever i finish a book i’ll make a post to discuss about it :3
My sister won’t read, and this is the only book series she’s read because she wanted to.
It will haunt you probably, it did me
i can draw it’s worth reading 🙂
It’s a series, & it’s heartbreaking…..
I’ve read all 3 but the first one is the only one that has stuck with me over the years. Try reading Torey L Hayden books as well.
Okay thank you so much :* 🙂
Thank you! I had forgotten about these, but remember reading them in primary school.
The privledge youth should also be included . It fills in a time gap.
Hid brother Richard Pelzer, wrote of the same events from his point of view..he was the brother that would be his mothers helper.
So you’re saying his brother suffered like his brother
Yes, the same in some ways, but completely different also.

If you ever get a chance to listen to him speak somewhere please do. He is a wonderful, kind man amd what he has to say is truly enlightening.
i’ll see Youtube
It is a series
It’s a hard series to read. But good.
Hard like morally or liguistically ?
Morally
It can be found as three individual books or as a compilation. I have the latter – since I found it, and simply gave the single books away; as well as the book by his brother Richard.
It’s a book series… 3 at by Dave Pelzer and 1 is by his brother Richard Pelzer
what the name of the book which his brother wrote ?
@Nikki
A Brothers Story by Richard B. Pelzer Surviving a childhood of abuse
A brothers journey and teenagers journey, he has two books
I thought he did, lol I just couldn’t find it and didn’t want to give wrong info
Oh just found it lol!
I did not like his as well. Even though he was a child, it was hard to have sympathy. I think he wrote it to save face.
I didn’t like the way he wrote that much, but I understand where’s he’s coming from… as he grew up that’s all he knew was watching his brother get abused so it was normal to him, which made him think it was ok… such sad stuff in those books man
Too much, I’ve never had a book physically make me I’ll. But there was parts where i had to literally put the book down and throw up or sob.
I love those. I read them when I was in 4th grade. You have to read them all.
i will 🙂
Buy lots of tissues and prepare yourself. Such sad books
lol it’s okay
i like sad books *-* they are my fav

I would put in books for a few different ages, including a coloring book with a small box of crayons.
I have these books an amazing read
No it’s a whole series and there was also one written by one of his brothers I have a copy of.
