Inspired by Jess Bechtold…what’s your unpopular opinion on a popular book? I personally hated Eat, Pray, Love and The girl with the dragon tattoo.

I cannot tell you how happy I am that this was the first comment. I was getting all revved up to declare my hatred for the book, and here you are, my tribe!

This is the only book I did not finish.

1

I so wanted to love it, but by mid book, I couldn’t do it anymore lol

2
Jenifer

I liked the eat part and the pray part I think. Not the love part. It’s been a while since I read but I seem to recall liking it at first and gradually thinking it was stupid and patronizing or condescending or something. Like i wish I had the money to just go ‘in search of myself’!

1
Susan

Very patronizing!!

1
Katie

I agree with Jenifer! I liked the Eat and the first part of Pray, then it got dumb.

So pretentious!!!

If you’re on Goodreads, check out Shelby’s review. It’s hilarious. That one is either a love it or hate it.

1

@Gina Totally spot on – it was a pretentious hipster that chose this book for our family Thanksgiving read, too!! LOL.

1
Gina

It was SO overwritten and bloated. I listened to the audio, which made them even more unlikable. A week of my life I will never get back.

1

Tried Girl with a Dragon Tattoo three times and could never get past the first chapter. It read so dry to me.

What’s your favorite King book?

0
Megan

The Stand is probably my favorite, but The Shining is a close second. Pet Sematary wrecked me, probably because my son was the age of the boy when I read it. I like more books by him than I don’t like, but I just thought IT was disappointing.

3
AlishaQuestion author

I love The Stand too! My fav is Needful Things.

1
Megan

I have not read Needful Things yet. It’s on my list!

Love The Stand and Dead Zone. Hated Misery. Pet Cemetary freaked me out!!! The Shining was good. It actually scared me 🙂

1
Lea

The Shining is one of my all-time favorite books. I really appreciate King when he uses the supernatural to tell what is essentially a story about family.

It’s like you’re a visitor from another planet if you don’t like the Outlander. I read a couple chapters, hated it immediately. Could not understand for the life of me why my whole family loves this book. Picked it up again, slogged through another five chapters and chucked it. Ugh!!!!!

It’s very rare for me to quit a book, but I didn’t think twice about quitting it! I went to the movie thinking maybe Julia Roberts would liven it up for me. Nope! Hated the movie too.
