I liked the Liquor series by Poppy Brite. Follows a couple in New Orleans who want to open a specialty restaurant. There are three books and each one turns into a sort of mystery.

Most of Brite’s work have same sex couples, they’re never really the theme of the book, just how the characters are. She generally writes horror, but Liquor and the two following books are more mystery/literary fiction

Queer Africa, it’s a collection of short stories and some are amazing. Also Robin Hobb’s The Rain Wild Chronicles has great LGBT characters.
