@Madonna My daughter & I were checking out a stack of books from our local library when we encountered a mom & her 2 young children. We struck up a conversation about the joys of reading. Her daughter, in particular, was looking for suggestions for new authors, “…a long series would be great.” Her mom mentioned that she was hoping to find one with a strong woman. Needless to say, we introduced them both to Mary Russell a la Laurie R. King!

This just struck a cord. I’m rereading Gregg Hurwitz Orphan X, the 1st book in his Evan Smoak series, because I am finally ready to read the next books in the series. As I’ve been rereading it I’ve realized Smoak will probably be the only recurring character. I think it is important to a series that there are multiple recurring characters the reader can invest in. Which is one reason people love Penny’s Inspector Gamache or Outlander, Game of Thrones, or Harry Potter. I like OrphanX but not sure the Smoak character alone is enough to keep me invested.
THE FOUNDING by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. This is the first novel in a series of 35 novels (spanning from the 15th century to the 1930s) in the Morland Dynasty Series. Each novel has a family tree so that the reader can trace the lives of future Morlands through the centuries. ?
