You could check out Cemetery Dance Publishing and please let me know if you’ll buy one because I have a giftcard of them and I probably will not use it. So maybe we could trade. ?

Just curious, what do you find attractive about the horror genre?

KarenQuestion author

Well…it’s hard to say. I’ve always liked horror since I was young. I think I started with mysteries and kind of moved over to horror like with Agatha Christie novels. I don’t just read horror though. I love a lot of variety really. ☺️

I genuinely love to be scared. It is the only emotion that can take me out of reality.

I have also read a few of his books, but then fell out of love with the genre horror as a whole. This book is smooth and reads like a YA horror novel. Must have read it 15 years ago! Had to google for the name of the book!

I haven’t seen the movie, but I was disappointed in the book. It grabbed me from the beginning, kept me hanging on (and scared), and then I thought it sort of petered out, and wasn’t scary any more.

@Francine Harvest Home was the first I’ve read of him. Want to read more! As I was reading HH, I kept envisioning Bette Davis — something familiar about the plot. Then it hit me that this was on TV when I was a kid but I didn’t remember anything about t other than being creepy

Hubert Selby, author of Last Exit to Brooklyn, wrote a book that was so horrible that he himself couldn’t read it for decades. It’s called “The Room”. I have it on my Kindle, but want to make sure I’ve got a few nights when I don’t need to sleep first. 🙂

I have to chuckle because the first time I read @Karen ‘s post I thought it said good humor book — (probably because I had not yet sipped on my first cup of coffee nor did I have my glasses on) Subsequently, I typed in Dave Barry Turns 40. I was an instant away from clicking “send” when I reread her post and thoughts YIKES — Dave Barry is NOT horror 🙂 What a way to start the day :

1
KarenQuestion author

@Tesa lol…. thats funny! I like humor too ?

1
KarenQuestion author

I love The Stand too!

1
Lysa

Poppy Z Brite, if you’re fine with gore and graphic violence (Exquisite Corpse, Lost Souls, Drawing Blood). Susan Hill if you like ghost stories (The Woman in Black, The Small Hand, The Man in the Picture). John Saul for psychological horror/thriller.

Someone mentioned a book by Hubert Selby in here, Last Exit to Brooklyn. He also wrote this one, which was apparently so disturbing that he himself couldn’t read it for 20 years. I have it on my Kindle, but haven’t tried reading it yet. Not sure if this qualifies as horror or just disturbing/scary as hell.

Not as far as I know. There was a movie that came out recently called “The Room”, but I don’t think it was Selby’s novel.

0
KarenQuestion author

i remember my son saying he went to a movie called The Room and it wasn’t the one with the lady and her son held hostage in a room. So i just asked my son and he said he saw Room by Tommy Wiseau which is a cult classic I guess. Supposed to be the worst film ever. Lol
So… sorry for my mix up and thanks for the suggestion! Lol
